lowering the injectors pop pressure as on WVO? - Olivier - 10-05-2010

Hello,
Is it better to lower the pop pressure on the injectors while on WVO as its a wee thicker then dino?
If yes what would the norm be, 10psi? More, less?
Cheers.
Olivier

You need MORE pressure to atomize the goo. Closer to an additional 15bar.

Thanks FI.
This is the opposite of what I heard. That was apparently the old thingy, highter pressure, now some say as its thicker a lower pressure will increase the fuel amount and at those pressure it still be athomised... The mystery of wvo...
Oh well...
Olivier
Can anyone tells me why when I post it double up? One time is enough...

no idea on the double post, how are you burning your VO? are you dumping it in the stock fuel tank, or heating it somehow beforehand to lower the viscosity?

RE: lowering the injectors pop pressure as on WVO? - Olivier - 10-05-2010

I started by just dumping the oil in the tank.
Then go a nice little german device heat exchanger on ebay that worked with the car coolant and 2 glow plugs.
Sold it as I thought it was actually not necessary( mistake) and I needed some money.
Then run for about 8 month stock, mixing at different time with different percentages and additives, acetone, RUG, diesel, veggie boost.
Lately I was on 15% diesel, 0.15 % acetone. Then 10% dino and 0.15 % acetone.
About a month ago I installed a FPHE, now I am on 100% WVO and 0.15% acetone.
The FPHE defenitly make a good difference, car run smoother and better sooner and on 100% without the need of dino Smile
There is a little HE in the head of the car but I took it off as it was restricting the fuel flow.

Really?
Gosh i hate when stuff like this conflicts, although it does make sense that it would need more pressure to atomize.
This could be tested simply with the use of a pop tester right?
How about those AAZ or AZZ VW 2stage injectors, would you reccomend those for WVO? Or over the stock injectors?

Would larger nozzles for the injectors be a good standard upgrade when running WVO you think?

Hey there Oliver, if you dont mind me asking why is it you add acetone with to your fuel? What kind of benefits have you noticed from it? What is the most acetone youve added?

Also what is RUG and veggie boost?

RE: lowering the injectors pop pressure as on WVO? - Olivier - 10-05-2010

Hi Garage,
RUG, regular unleaded, from 5% up to 10% but then I got bubbles troubles ( boiling).
The acetone only 0.15%. It ( apparently) help breaking down the oil tension. I found it help on 100% veg for the cold start. Didn't see any differences when mixed with dino or RUG tho.
Veggie boost is an additive that increase the cetane of the vwo and should improve the combustion. Some swear about it.

Gasoline has no place in any diesel engine for any reason.

RE: lowering the injectors pop pressure as on WVO? - Olivier - 10-06-2010

I know its a bit odd but few here run with no bother on 5% to 10% RUG to thin the oil in winter. Its thinning the oil twice as diesel, this is why people use it.
I personnaly don't really like it nor the car but I know 2 X E300TD that use it with no bother.
Its all a bit of a trial and error I guess and at your own risk to see if it work for you or not.

I promess I only press the summit button only one.

The need to thin should be a strong clue its unsuitable as a fuel.

Its one of the many reasons BioDiesel was developed to use instead of raw vegetable oils.
