Low Fuel Mileage MPG in 603 Wagon - jonbobshinigin - 10-10-2010
I have heard countless people getting 26-32 mpg with their 1987 300TDT Wagons...but for some reason, I have never gotten over 26, but I am usually in the range of 22-24. Even when it is 90% highway. This was before and after I removed my ALDA, which causes some black smoke on heavy acceleration. My car runs great so there does not appear to be anything wrong. Injectors have been pop tested and are within range but a couple just barely would piss a bit.
What else could it be? My thinking was something with the injection pump, which will be rebuilt as soon as DervTuning gets the 7.5 elements figured out in the 603 pump.

The easier you drive the less fuel you'll use. In my 300D I can get up to 26mpg if I go easy but usually average 21-22 driving with gusto.
If you're looking at eBay MPG claims they're lies 99.995% of the time.

The numbers I have heard are from reasonable people giving an honest evaluation of fuel mileage. I have tried driving easy and still got the same numbers. On the highway though, I do drive 80ish.

Try driving 65-70ish and they will improve a bit!

My EGTs are only about 400*f at 35mph, I've been thinking of doing a 300mile low-speed road trip just to see how high I can push the MPG.

Yes go slower then 80,mph, and ease up on the passing of vehicles on the highway choose the slow lane, and use minimal throttle for acceleration on the highwAY.

ive noticed that my 300d anything over 3000K and i get around 26mpg, try keeping the revs down and see what happens/

I'm getting 32 mpg. And I'm not that easy on it!

A 602 in a W201 is significantly lighter and more aerodynamic.

Yes my 602 w201 na was recieving 35 highway and that was beating it up.
I am very excited to see what my new w201 will be recieving with a 603.
