How much power can a 300 hold - alarm92 - 10-17-2010 Hello My name is Almar and I'm new on this forum. I'm a Norwegian Marine engineer, and have just bought myself a cheap and rusty 300D nonturbo w123 MB, just for fun. The plan is simply too force more air into it (a turbo from a 6 liter ford and a extern wastegate will make sure of that, høhø) then adjust the diesel pump up. If it works, i will use it as a driftcar at the winter (My other car i FWD -_-) I was just wondering if anybody knows how much boost pressure i can put on this engine before i cross the red line. The nonturbo doesn't have oil cooled pistons? Is there someone on this forum that have converted a nonturbo into a turbo? And at last, what is the big difference between the 120 hp engine with turbo and the one with 88 hp without turbo? (crankshaft, pistons, cam shaft, valves, injectors, diesel pump? etc) Hilsen Almar RE: How much power can a 300 hold - ForcedInduction - 10-17-2010 (10-17-2010, 07:00 AM)alarm92 300D nonturboAbout 88hp. Buy this SAE paper to understand what Mercedes went through to make the engine reliable. http://www.sae.org/technical/papers/780633 If you want more power the best option is to simply sell the car and buy a 300D turbo to start with. You'll spend a lot of money on the non-turbo engine just to get as much power and longevity will be in the toilet. RE: How much power can a 300 hold - JTY - 10-21-2010 Agreed, no point to tune OM617 NA, just buy a OM617A turbo. We have here in Finland several failed OM617 NA with added turbo and custom pump, wont handle the added thermal load for long. Wasted money! Okay, thanks for your help, now i know what i'm looking for RE: How much power can a 300 hold - Silberpfeil - 10-26-2010 Off subject--but how far from Oslo are you?? |
