OM60X Powered Hummer??? - Captain America - 11-05-2010

I've been at the SEMA show this whole week in Las Vegas and saw this 'hybrid' hummer powered by what looks like a Mercedes style diesel... looks like it powers some electric motors that drive the axles. I will post the pics in a lil bit when I get to my hotel room where my laptop is...

Is this one of the rebodied Suburban GM knock offs or an actual AM General Hummer?I could could see the rebodied Blazer Hummer pulling off a warmed over 606.

RE: OM60X Powered Hummer??? - JB3 - 11-05-2010

Neither! It's the Real thing baby! Cool

Apparently the engine is made by Stery?

It`s a Austrian company, with a long history, in fact, it was them that built the Geländewagen, and still build it I think.

Correct. They Make the G-wagen (both military and bling civilian), pinzigauers, unimog and other farm/military vehicles. They also made the drivetrain for the 4WD vanagon syncro.

As for the op, humvees are at least 8000 lbs so it would take a real superturbo 60x to make one feel at all peppy.
I recently rode with one that has some big gm diesel (duramax?). It's a monster.

Thats what the batteries are for in intermittent load hybrids. They provide the giddyup, the engine keeps them charged during low-load times and supplements their output when needed.

Now for a constant load hybrid like a train, yeah the engine needs to match the motor rating.

RE: OM60X Powered Hummer??? - Captain America - 11-06-2010

My buddy has a '92 hummer and it does not weigh 8k. It weighs in right around the 6k mark. You have to remember that the body is aluminum on those things... the drivetrain/frame weigh the most.

This hummer did not have any batteries that I could see!

RE: OM60X Powered Hummer??? - ben2go - 11-06-2010

The AM General (military style) weighed in at over 8000lbs.The GM knock offs were around 6000lbs.

RE: OM60X Powered Hummer??? - Captain America - 11-07-2010

It would depend on which one you got, like the military armored up version, civilian version, knockoff....

this is it - definitely 8K lbs.

RE: OM60X Powered Hummer??? - ben2go - 11-07-2010

The civy versions are around 8000lbs.Should have been more specific.I wouldn't doubt that the service versions break 10,000lbs.

That's where I will be with my buddies H1 here in a bit after he's done with the twin turbo BBC swap. I'll get a pic up in a few.
