W124 rubber lip? - okto - 02-04-2011

I like keeping slipstream out from under my car, but I don't like scraping fiberglass on speed bumps and crappy parking lot ramps. Does anyone know if a rubber lip/splitter/air dam was ever produced for the W124 bumper cover?

You could go the "cheapie" route and use some vinyl siding from home depot, some pop rivets, and some Krylon Fusion rattle-can flat black/spray vinyl dye.

Not 100% OEM, but can look quite good in some cases

I actually did that with some plastic garden edging from Home Depot, and it worked really well. Improved handling over 80mph, and looked like the real deal.
Unfortunately, the stuff I used was rigid like the bumper cover itself, and a week ago I caught a parking stop and it ripped off not only my ghetto-fab lip spoiler but a nice chunk of the bumper cover it was attached to. When I get a new bumper cover, I think I'm going to reinforce the bottom edge so it has some actual strength to it. Think racing splitter struts, but internally.

Lol I was going to suggest that. I was thinking about trying the softer rubber gardening edging stuff. I saw a BMW at the jy with it and it looked factory. They is a few different types iirc.

The BMW lip style is what I'm going for. Aerodynamically sound, obstacle-friendly, and aesthetically compatible.

I could swear that JC Whitney sold that stuff at some time in the past. Possibly they still do?

I know they've got out of some of the weirder stuff that used to hide in their catalog.

I'm in the same boat, well not really, my front bumper cover is demolished. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to a stock bumper cover, but the only real aftermarket one is the Duraflex FRP one. It appears to be a copy of some AMG body kit, and pretty much exactly what you guys are looking for. Not to my taste, but check ebay if you want a closer look.
