om617 Crankshaft pulse sender - BRABUS - 02-27-2011 Hi Cant find some info about the crank sensor on the internet. Does somebody know if its 12v? and what the diffrent pins on the cable is +- signal ? Going to use it on a aftermarket tacho. RE: om617 Crankshaft pulse sender - ForcedInduction - 02-27-2011 The crank sensor generates its own voltage signal that changes with rpm, it has no input only output. RE: om617 Crankshaft pulse sender - BRABUS - 02-27-2011 thanks. But do you know what the three diffrens pins on the connector cable is? RE: om617 Crankshaft pulse sender - winmutt - 02-27-2011 Its a hall effect sensor. Pre "facelift" models required externeal amplification. I am not sure if they still did in the turbo models or if it was simply built into the tach. RE: om617 Crankshaft pulse sender - Walkenvol - 02-28-2011 (02-27-2011, 02:35 PM)BRABUS Does somebody know if its 12v? I've been wading through this same issue with assistance from Bob at sales@mbelectronicupgrades.com . According to Bob, the MB crank sensor on a 1982 300SD puts out 5v. Bob believes he has a unit to make it work; "I have a unit that puts out a 12V pulse (instead of the normal 5V pulse) with special software for 4cyl tachs or 6cyl tachs. It is used in the W460 G-Wagens with petrol tachs that have had diesels transplanted. It is also used with some aftermarket tachs like Sunpro, etc. for other diesel swaps." I'm not to the point of making the guages work yet so I've not tried it myself but I plan to later. Maybe the tach amp does. RE: om617 Crankshaft pulse sender - Walkenvol - 02-28-2011
No way does the sensor put out 5v. Maybe the tach amp does.
I'm not the source of the information and can not debate the voltage output. The sensor at the crank on the front of the motor is wired over to a black cylinder on the driver's inner fender. I've heard the black cylinder referred to as the "scan tool access". Possibly this is what you are calling the "tach amp"? If you check out the web page I posted earlier it show's the referenced "unit" going in the black cylinder (whatever the proper name might be). |
