WTB 300GD flywheel - Syncro_G - 03-30-2011 Hi, I'd like to get a 300GD flywheel and would like to source one stateside before plopping a chunk of change to ship one from Germany. I happen to have a 240GD flywheel as partial trade. Like the 300GD FW, it has a 230mm clutch surface but is light like the 240D FW. I haven't seen the proper specs for it but it's likely near or possibly below wear limits. No good for a heavy G-wagen but probably still lots of fun for an STD sedan. -Christian RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - winmutt - 04-01-2011 Oh that 240GD would be a hot swap for a super 617. I paid ~600 for my 300gd FW from classic parts NIB. RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - Syncro_G - 04-05-2011 (04-01-2011, 07:54 AM)winmutt Oh that 240GD would be a hot swap for a super 617. I paid ~600 for my 300gd FW from classic parts NIB. I just did the same. ~$600 new and delivered from Euro-Truck. I found a couple used in Germany but shipping costs pushed their prices over $500. RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - winmutt - 04-06-2011 Is the clutch and pressure plate the same as the 204GD and 300GD? I might be interested in that 240gd fw of yours. RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - Syncro_G - 04-07-2011 (04-06-2011, 09:20 AM)winmutt Is the clutch and pressure plate the same as the 204GD and 300GD? I might be interested in that 240gd fw of yours. Clutch surface is 230mm across. My 300GD clutch kit fits nicely on it. However, one of the G wagen guys expressed interest earlier. I'll PM you if he passes on it. Will a 240gd/240d 300gd flywheel with clutch and pressureplate bolt right on the 617a ? ifso will 240gd/300gd or 240d manual transmission fit on the engine then? Sorry for stealing your post RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - winmutt - 04-07-2011 (04-07-2011, 07:44 AM)BRABUSI am using the 300GD FW in my car with manual trans from 240d.(04-07-2011, 02:19 AM)Syncro_G(04-06-2011, 09:20 AM)winmutt Is the clutch and pressure plate the same as the 204GD and 300GD? My off the line torque increased and my top end HP decreased. RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - BRABUS - 04-07-2011 Okei. Nice will i need to Balance the crank and flywheel? RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - winmutt - 04-07-2011 I did not. Your mileage may vary. RE: WTB 300GD flywheel - SurfRodder - 11-06-2011 not to drag up an old thread, but I finally installed my 300GD setup as well and I definitely recommend balancing the new setup. Mine was significantly out of balance as well as the pressure plate so I had them both balanced and then balanced as a set. I did not bother doing it with the old 240D flywheel/PP I had and there was significant vibration at certain engine RPM. Some of that is likely due to the larger mass being a bit more forgiving, but I figure paying that much for the flywheel you might as well do it the best you can. I paid about 130 bux to get mine balanced the way it is, but I don't know if thats a good price or not. I do know that the thing is much smoother that it ever was before. I likely would have balanced the 240D setup as well, but I never intended to leave it in as long as it was. The car is also not as quick as it used to be, but a lot easier to start out uphill than it used to be and does not buck like the old setup did (it used to act like it was being lugged, even in 1st gear most noticeably in traffic or low speed cruising, like parking lots and a lot of clutching was necessary, now it is totally a smooth drive). Anyway, well worth the effort. Now, to make more power... note: my auto flywheel was neutral from the factory, so "match balancing" was simply a matter of getting the 300GD setup dialed in neutral as well... |
