Diff info? - Captain America - 04-28-2011 I thought I saw a list of diff gear ratios in here based on model and year of car... If not does someone have that info or can a sticky be compiled? RE: Diff info? - Captain America - 04-28-2011 Your the man! RE: Diff info? - DeliveryValve - 04-28-2011 I'll add to it later. Got more data for other models, just got to compile it all together. . RE: Diff info? - Captain America - 04-28-2011 '82 300D falls under the Euro Spec category? I could have bet that my '81 300SD has lower gearing than the '82 300D but it looks opposite? RE: Diff info? - DeliveryValve - 04-28-2011 (04-28-2011, 02:29 PM)Captain America '82 300D falls under the Euro Spec category? My bad. I left out a whole section of 3.07 gear ratios. But look at the engine model too. The Euro '82 has 617.912 n/a motor and the US '82 has the 617.952 turbo motor. Anycase for everybody, if there is any misinformation in this list, please let me know and I'll correct it. (04-28-2011, 02:29 PM)Captain America I could have bet that my '81 300SD has lower gearing than the '82 300D but it looks opposite? They both should have a 3.07 ratio. Perhaps a tired torque converter? . RE: Diff info? - aaa - 04-28-2011 Here's gsxr's 124 diff chart RE: Diff info? - Captain America - 04-28-2011 (04-28-2011, 02:40 PM)DeliveryValve(04-28-2011, 02:29 PM)Captain America '82 300D falls under the Euro Spec category? Well a tired engine, that's for sure. But hey! Could be me I CRS and apparently have trouble reading too lol RE: Diff info? - dieselboy - 04-29-2011 Huh. My friends 85 300td has 3.07 gears. According to that it should have 2.88. I'll look at the production date on it tomorrow. Now we just need a interchangeable list. RE: Diff info? - Raptelan - 12-28-2011 My euro 1983 200D has a 3.92, isn't on the list above... RE: Diff info? - petespipes - 01-05-2013 Hi I realise this is an old thread but people searching for this type of info still hit this thread so it does need to be correct or corrected. Deliveryvalve posted [in bold] 107,14,115,116,123 and 126 differentials interchangeable up to 8/85 please accept I have no practical experience with these diffs and have been relying on info sources such as this site my goal is to put an LSD 3.69 ratio into my 74 w107 450slc,so the above info tells me I can swap a 1.1 litre casing into the space formerly occupied by a 1.3 litre casing. As these casings are different widths, what is it that im missing? I have 1.1 litre case, correct LSD and gears to complete the build of a 3.69 ratio LSD diff including spacer ring to utilise brand new 190e 16v LSD centre but do not have drawings of housings with dimensions so reading info here I assumed width to be same until I measured them today.... OK so whats the missing piece? different axles? im confused. RE: Diff info? - aaa - 01-05-2013 The axles would definitely be different. Don't know other details. RE: Diff info? - raysorenson - 01-06-2013 When you say width, are you measuring the distance between the C-clip grooves in the housings used to hold the carrier bearing races in? RE: Diff info? - DeliveryValve - 01-07-2013 (01-05-2013, 01:50 AM)petespipes . What I found in the w116 and w126, is the 1.3 liter case typically uses axles that are 2.5 cm shorter than the 1.1 liter case. The 107 most likely be the same. The only way to find out if the 1.3 liter axles would work, is to try them. They will slide into the diff with no problems, just need to space them correctly for locking in the "c" clips. RE: Diff info? - petespipes - 01-08-2013 (01-07-2013, 10:06 AM)DeliveryValve(01-05-2013, 01:50 AM)petespipes . Thankyou for replies. I am trying to put together the parts while the car which is to recieve the diff/axles is still on the road. To achieve this I will try to research this axle size and type question. I have compared the w123 and w107 parts numbers for wheel bearings and they are different, hubs are same.[have a 123 parts car] besides length differences I will also need to know if the splines etc do interchange. If I had 3 wishes just now one might be used to compile a list of mercedes axles, lengths and compatibility regarding which axle ends would fit what chassis. I know of mercedes race cars using weird diffs [r200 nissan] utilising cut and shut axles but hoping to avoid that extreme. Anybody seen an axle compilation or anything useful.probably need to ask in the right place doh. RE: Diff info? - 83300d - 01-10-2013 Something I have always wondered about was taking the subframe from a newer car and bolting it into my 83. RE: Diff info? - Bangaway - 01-17-2013 So what is the best way to get a 3.07 or 3.27 LSD in a 124 chassis? That is--where would I get one of these other than a 1987 190E 16V? I guess the simplest option is to convert a 185mm diff to an LSD. Are there any good documentations for how to do this including parts lists? RE: Diff info? - aaa - 01-19-2013 Here's a thread on various ways of transplanting lsd. It's pretty long but there's lots of helpful comments by gsxr (AMGDave). The parts go for somewhere around $900-1100 new. http://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w124/224048-limited-slip-differentials-w124s.html RE: Diff info? - swampmonkey - 10-18-2013 like 1981.10 they changed the differentials according to my documents. before 1981-10 on w126 the 380SE versions had a 3.27differential, and the 500Se versions had a 2.82 differential, after 1981-10, they both uses a 2.47 diff. might not be the same in the US. RE: Diff info? - willbhere4u - 10-18-2013 Mercedes put AC Leather and power windows in every car sold in the US unless specialty ordered with out them. but LSD's are super rare they had to be ordered with it every once in awhile you see them in the very top of the range cars 560sec s600 and so on. Hell even most of the base w201 190e in this country have leather interior ac and power windows the only car i have ever seen with roll up windows was 240d RE: Diff info? - john - 12-08-2013 Anyone got the partnumbers on the early lsd diffs that will fit w123? edit: Is this list compatible for eurospecs to? RE: Diff info? - swampmonkey - 02-23-2014 naa, not exactly, althou i could find from that to a few different... more like 124-351-07-05 124-351-06-05 but the 06-05 should have bearings: A0009808402 A0009801102 at the front and A0019802102 at the sides (aswell as A0229979847 as seal rings..) 07-05 differential had some "roller bearing not available" and showed the setup from the 06-05 differential. DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THESE NUMBERS/BEARINGS AS 100% that will fit your car.... just checking WIS for what i could find, i am shure you could get these confirmed at your mb-dealer when you have more information about your car/differential or from another forum member... cheers... Mercedes does not make any bearings itself, buys them from FAG, SKF or other bearing maker. But it helps if you can find original part numbers RE: Diff info? - john - 03-17-2014 question! is 2.24 exclusive to 500sec? is it always a lsd?? RE: Diff info? - swampmonkey - 03-18-2014 (03-17-2014, 05:35 PM)john question! Ive seen different information about that, but i think the later 500SE is supposed to have a 2.24 aswell as the 500SEC. up untill 1981-10 the 500SE had a 2.82, and then a 2.24. Compared to for example the 380SE that went from 3.27 to 2.47 at the same time.... what i have heard the LSD is standard on the 500SEC, but yeah, the LSD part differs on where in the world you live, (you being a swede as me.) i have no information about the 500SE, but the 500SEC could also be ordered with a 2.47 from what ive heard. RE: Diff info? - john - 03-18-2014 (03-18-2014, 07:35 AM)swampmonkey(03-17-2014, 05:35 PM)john question! have found a a 500 sec diff 2.24 in germany forsale. but i cant get the stupid german (they dont speak english ) to send me pics of the rear so i dont know if the lsd sign is there. but it is a 2.24 from a 500 sec before 86 so it should fit a w123. it must be a lsd right? Is the output crazy low for a daily driver superturbodiesel?? cant find much use for my 6th gear with that diff. but i might buy it beacause of the price. RE: Diff info? - swampmonkey - 04-10-2014 trying to get a hold of a 3.07LSD, there is a guy here in sweden currently selling one of those aswell as a 3.46LSD.. both imported from Canada, so it might be worth it to take a look just a tad north for those precious differentials (03-18-2014, 10:05 AM)john(03-18-2014, 07:35 AM)swampmonkey(03-17-2014, 05:35 PM)john question! sorry for late answer, if it is from a w126SEC it should be a LSD... a 2.24 is absolutely a tad low, if you had a fivespeed it would have been another story, drove the w123 om606 with the 2.47LSD, and althou the fifth gear was sweet when driving on the highway i realy never left third gear when i drove at a track, 355km/h in topspeed at 6000rpm is a tad high to use, for a commuter car it works excellent, but no, not for more aggressive driving, + the pull on each gear is quite long... (i would guess that stresses the engine more, longer time with blacksmoke etc...)
