OM617 w MW. pump. No part throttle. - rolfi - 05-19-2011

Hello.

I have somewhat of a problem with my car.

When I press the throttle pedal around a cm, the car slowly moves forward. After that, nothing happens before it's almost floored. So I have a huge dead spot on part throttle.

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

What's it do in neutral? Can you watch what the linkage does with someone else pushing the pedal?

Look at the linkage by the stop button. there is a rubber piece in there that break and also at the firewall there is another rubber piece that breaks and doesn't allow the throttle linkage to move fully.

In N and P it's the same. It revs like normal if I don't push the pedal more than 1cm. After that cm, nothing happens before it's almost floored. I have a feeling it's easier to push it where the dead spot is, but that might as well be something I think I feel, because of how it reacts. Two friends plus myself have looked at the linkage when the pedal is being pushed, but everything looks normal... I'll try to research some more this weekend.
The whole linkage looks like a huge chaos for me, as I'm used to gasoline engines where there is either a single throttle-cable or a electronic motor controlling the opening of the throttle-plate...

But when 1 US gallon costs ~$10 here (Norway), I'd rather save some money with a diesel, and at the same time learn something new Smile

Try pulling on the stop lever, and see if the same problem shows.
That neatly bypassess the linkage and will tell you if there's a problem there or not.

Here is a video of the problem.

Thanks a lot for the help I've gotten so far!

The FSM has all the correct measurements for the linkage. Watch the linkage on the engine side of the IP about half way down the IP. There is a hammer that hits max stop. Back track the action from there and see where the slop is.

Thank you.
I've decided to replace my engine. I just hope that the forest-pump is better than this MW-pump.
