Overland Diesel XJ - saburai - 05-29-2011 Hi Gang! I'm new to this forum and I think it great! Many great rides and lots of good info. My plan is to convert my '99 Jeep XJ over to om617 turbo power and then convert that to WVO. Being a life long hot rodder, I'd also like to squeeze a little more power out of it with out hurting longevity if I can. I've been turning wrenches all my life and have built many an oddball ride, but I am a total noob when it comes to diesels! I'll be reading here allot more than I'll be posting but I just wanted to say hello and share a bit about my XJ. It's a '99 5 speed sport model that I've put a bit of time in to building it in to a capable expo style ride for my wife and myself. The rear seats have been removed and the rear passenger space now holds a 43qt. Edgestar AC/DC fridge/freezer in the middle. on the driver's side is the second AGM battery and other secondary electrical components including a folding 62 watt solar panel. On the passenger side is a 10 gal. fresh water system with a surflo pump and filters to use water from most any source. Moving back, next is a sturdy security divider grid to keep the driver and navigator safe from cargo moving forward. Accessed form the rear hatch are two large drawers, one with camping supplies and the other with tools. The truck has a few mild mods to the 4.0 straight six, ported TB, a hi flow air intake, headers and a full SS exhaust. Other mods include ARB air lockers front and rear, Riddle Machine diff covers, heavy duty steering components, a DGP belly skid plate, rear disc brakes, SYE and built drive shafts and I probably forgot a thing or two. Custom bumpers front and rear. Winch built in to the front and a swing out Jerry can/tire carrier in the rear. OBA is provided by a 1hp Puma compressor built in to the rear quarter. Air is stored in the passenger side rock rail with an air chuck under the tail light. Topping it all off is a Autohome Roof Top Tent (RTT). It's quite comfy up there with a memory foam mattress, 12v fans in the summer and a big rig bunk warmer when it gets chilly. Any way her are a few pictures: RE: Overland Diesel XJ - Imaginos - 05-29-2011 (05-29-2011, 01:06 PM)saburai but I am a total noob when it comes to diesels! I think this could be a good starting point then. Nice car BTW. Not really a fan of Jeep, but I really like what you did with it. Good luck! RE: Overland Diesel XJ - dieselboy - 05-29-2011 Why are you pulling the 4.0? RE: Overland Diesel XJ - saburai - 05-29-2011 Imaginos, thanks for the link. Jesse, I want a non electronic WVO burning diesel. RE: Overland Diesel XJ - dieselboy - 05-29-2011 Oh I see. I want to put a om617 in a bronco 2 or ranger RE: Overland Diesel XJ - dust - 05-30-2011 REALLY interested in how it works out for you. I have wanted a dieseled jeep for a long time. RE: Overland Diesel XJ - Captain America - 05-31-2011 That thing is awesome! Love what you've done with it... Wanna sell me your TB and intake manifold? RE: Overland Diesel XJ - saburai - 05-31-2011 (05-31-2011, 01:01 AM)Captain America That thing is awesome! Love what you've done with it... Thanks! Do you have any pictures of yours? As for the TB and manifold - it might be a long time before I pull the 4.0 I want to get the Benz and get used to the om617 and get it running *right* before I pull it. Any ideas of good places to look for a donor car? RE: Overland Diesel XJ - larsalan - 05-31-2011 here's one pulled. Dunno if it's a turbo or if you want the rest of a car too. http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/pts/2401433774.html --------------- or a whole car http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/2368532851.html not an '89 http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/pts/2404425993.html RE: Overland Diesel XJ - Captain America - 05-31-2011 Oh yeah I have plenty of pics of mine.
