TheDon Bought a 240D - TheDon - 06-18-2011 1982 240D 4 speed with 309k miles and a trunk triangle to boot! No rust, just some small spots here and there. Engine runs well(I think it does), transmission shifts decently(I've never driven stick before), AC works, sunroof works, all 4 windows go down via the hand crank. I think it has a vacuum leak somewhere and the ignition key only works in the ignition.Front right door will not catch all the way. Interior needs to be cleaned up and drivers seat replaced. I also suspect the fuel tank sender may be gunked up since I drove it home almost 180 miles and the needle did not move. I have never driven a 240D and boy is everyone right. They are slow but the 4 speed helps. This is the replacement for my step dad's Aveo that bit the dust. I just need to clean it up, replace engine mounts, make sure the suspension is good, engine is strong, etc. But, I do like it. I also named it Pancakes. RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - TheDon - 06-18-2011 RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - TheDon - 06-26-2011 Temporary, Gangster solution until I can get money to rebuild the suspension and get new tires for the original wheels/hub caps. RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - Captain America - 06-27-2011 Please sell the gangster wheels to me! RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - TheDon - 07-22-2011 I have them on hold for someone else until I get the front end rebuilt and the original wheels back on. RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - TheDon - 08-17-2011 slowly but surely I am rebuilding this car. Swapped in a lower mile transmission due to 1st gear not working properly. Which turned out to be a loose shifter arm on the transmission. Oh well. Drained the gear oil out of the new transmission and filled with Pennzoil synchromesh. Shifts like butter. I still need to rebuild the shifter mechanism it self. But my mechanic said the synchros feel a lot better in the new transmission that the old one. Which was filled with ATF. I have a new water pump to install, then get an alignment, do rear subframe bushings, front pads and rotors. and a lot more as usual! RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - willbhere4u - 08-17-2011 That spare in your trunk is very rare alloy wheel for hubcaps! RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - DanielK - 08-21-2011 Will, that is a dashed stripe. It is a steelie. RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - willbhere4u - 08-21-2011 That's how all of the alloys on my car are the steel's are usually all black RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - mike-81-240d - 08-22-2011 (08-21-2011, 04:32 PM)DanielK Will, that is a dashed stripe. It is a steelie. Dashed line means 5.5 inch width. Solid line means 6 inch width. RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - DanielK - 08-23-2011 Alloys never came in 5.5, only 6". RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - willbhere4u - 08-23-2011 The alloy's on my 1980 240d are 5 1/2 J x 14 h2 (5.5x14) part # 123 400 13 02 and they are defiantly alloys! If it was a steel it would have rust round the outer edge! RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - Captain America - 08-23-2011 This has become a wheel thread lol RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - DanielK - 08-24-2011 Interesting, I was misinformed then. TheDon, beautiful car! lol RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - mike-81-240d - 08-24-2011 Mine are also 5.5 alloy not steel. Came on my old 1981 240D. Kept them when I sold it. RE: TheDon Bought a 240D - willbhere4u - 08-25-2011 looking at his car makes me want to finish mine! I cant wait to drive it again! |
