AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - CJP28 - 08-21-2011 RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - iheartboost - 08-21-2011 Saw that. Fannn tastic lol love big diesel trucks RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - DanielK - 08-23-2011 anyone else think that duramax is smoking a little much? RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - iheartboost - 08-23-2011 Yea but then the cummins smokes the rest of the way down the track and the duramax lightens up. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - smoke026 - 08-23-2011 Can wait till I get my 12V cummins RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - Captain America - 08-23-2011 yeah funny how the motors smoke in the opposite way huh RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - capflya - 08-24-2011 Cummins' tend to have to use a crap ton of extra fuel to make power no matter what turbo. The duramax can usually be tuned to not smoke at all and make good power as long as it has the proper turbo setup. Whenever I see a strong running cummins thats making a ton of power... they always go down the track looking like a coal burning train lol... Did I mention the duramax trucks have a more comfortable interior RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - Captain America - 08-24-2011 Haha even though I love the Cummins, I would go with the Chevdog anyday RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - DanielK - 08-24-2011 That's it, I'm sticking an OM606 superturbo in a miata so I can smoke all of those trucks. lol RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - Captain America - 08-24-2011 (08-24-2011, 01:50 PM)DanielK That's it, I'm sticking an OM606 superturbo in a miata so I can smoke all of those trucks. lol I have the miata! RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - CJP28 - 08-24-2011 (08-24-2011, 01:50 PM)DanielK That's it, I'm sticking an OM606 superturbo in a miata so I can smoke all of those trucks. lol ROFLMFAO! Haa that would be badass. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - smoke026 - 08-24-2011 Im a Chevy guy,,But hate Duramax, I don't really like Powerstrokes, Yet I drive Fords everyday, I hate all Dodges (-VIPER) yet like CUMMINS,I have hated all types of WAGONS from all eras and makes all of my life, yet Im driving a 300TD. Somehow, GOD deals the cards this way in my life. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 08-24-2011 The Cummins powered Dodge in this video is just a *little* different than your average build. It's owned by Dale Smith (his son Jimmy is the driver). All the way back in 2005, they were destined to run some impressive times with the build they had well underway. Under the hood is, for all intents and purposes, a 1200+ HP truck pull engine. I'll never forget the 2005 DHRA Nationals at IRP when they tore a very large chunk out of the block (where the block deck meets the head) on the truck's maiden voyage down the track...it took off like a bat out of hell and then she blew. Ouch. Beers, Matt RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - CJP28 - 08-25-2011 (08-24-2011, 09:24 PM)HoleshotHolset The Cummins powered Dodge in this video is just a *little* different than your average build. Ouch. Interesting information, I must say that Dodge is insane! The way it does a front wheel burnout, leaves me amazed. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 08-27-2011 (08-25-2011, 07:49 PM)CJP28 Interesting information, I must say that Dodge is insane! The way it does a front wheel burnout, leaves me amazed. Yup - very insane indeed. Dale Smith built it as his retirement project. How cool is that?! Lol RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 08-27-2011 (08-27-2011, 10:30 AM)CJP28 Haa cool is an understatement! That's a "Grand Finale" to a working life. Lol I interviewed both Dale and Jimmy over the phone back in 2005 when I was writing the "Burnin' Rubber" column for Diesel Power magazine. (In 2006, Primedia/DP started using staff writers for that column instead of freelance writers...) They're super nice folks and deserve lots of recognition for the truck they've built. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 08-27-2011 (08-27-2011, 10:45 AM)CJP28 Oh you were a writer for Diesel Power Magazine? Damn, that's badass man! Yup - I wrote an article for the first ever edition of that magazine in 2005 and carried on until 2006 when their staff writers took over. I was involved with the former DHRA (Diesel Hot Rod Association) and DP magazine contacted DHRA for content. I was friends with the head honcho of the DHRA, so I was pinned as the guy to go to some of the diesel events, take pictures and write about the events. It was badass, very badass. At that time, progress and interest in diesel performance in the USA was literally unstoppable - so I got to go to the events as a VIP. Times have changed, though - the events aren't the way they used to be...mostly because attendance is down due to a major drop in most folks' discretionary spending. Wow I admire that, and yes times have changed. :/ Hopefully we can bring the Diesel crowd back up!! RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 08-31-2011 I agree...BUT - we don't want the diesel crowd too excited about MB diesel performance - parts are scarce enough as it is. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - winmutt - 09-01-2011 I knew who was going to win before the green light. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - erling66 - 01-14-2012 I consider these guys to be amateurs. They can be as famous as they want, they are still amateurs to me. How can they be proud of themselves making as much smoke (pollution) as that? What signal are they sending to their fans? It is cool to pollute? They should look at Banks and learn something. RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 01-22-2012 (01-14-2012, 04:00 AM)erling66 They should look at Banks and learn something. Don't forget that Gale Banks has a nearly unlimited budget. With that budget, he can run synthetic diesel fuel, huge quantities of nitrous oxide and hundreds (thousands?) of hours of dyno testing/tuning to tune the smoke out or at least limit it. Same goes for the Audi motorsports team. Their race-spec TDI's are phenomenal performers built on a spare-no-expense budget. Beers, Matt RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - dieselboy - 01-22-2012 RE: AN EPIC DIESEL DRAG RACE! - HoleshotHolset - 01-22-2012 That truck is BADASS...I have their videos set as favorites on YouTube. They're running a common-rail engine in that thing...makes over 1200hp to the wheels, IIRC. Beers, Matt |
