722.3 shifting wierd - MFSuper90 - 10-06-2011
So today i turned up the torque capsule and went i was driving down the road it was shifting so smooth i could barely feel it. Before i touched the pump this tranny shifted hard enough it would jerk the whole car. The vacuum line is still on the tranny. I dont know why it this happened after i only messed with the pump?

Ahh this is a perfect example as why a tuned engine is important to how these transmissions shifts.
The effect of your old engine setting was the engine was not putting out enough power in relation to pedal/linkage travel. This then inherently moves the vacuum control valve (VCV) to open up more, which bleeds off more vacuum. The lower the vacuum, the firmer the transmission would shift. What you end up feeling is a transmission that is shifting harsher because the power of the engine is less then ideal during the shift points.
When you tweaked the IP, you bumped up the power. The VCV adjustment ended up being at the perfect spot in relation to pedal/linkage travel and the power output of the engine matched the shift points along with transmission's firmness of shifts. Thus a perfect recipe of smooth shifting.

But it shifts so smooth it slips whenever it shifts. I liked the firm shifts, these smooth shifts give me the heebie geebies

So adjusting the vacuum valve linkage will stiffen the shifts more?

Connect a vacuum gauge to the line between the trans(at the modulator) and the Vacuum Control Valve. Take note of the vacuum you are getting. Then you can adjust the linkage longer or shorter to see if it makes an impovement and take note of the vacuum you are getting. You probably want to bleed off more vacuum to firm up the shifting.
If this is not work to your satisfaction, then adjust the vacuum modulator at the transmission with turning the T-dial clockwise. http://www.mercedesdismantlers.com/722.3and722.416_transmission_adjustments.html

Idle is good? I have been messing with mine lately. Turned up pretty high seemed to smooth out shifting. Though my Bowden to the trans is a jerryrigged so who knows what's going on there.

Yes, my idle is pretty good. I only turned mine 1 and 1/2 turns in. It smoothed my shifts way too much. It would feel like it slipped between shifts, and i dont like that. at all

How much did you turn yours up? Is idle still okay?
