Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - MTUPower - 10-23-2011 What turbo is "best" for a 617-95X that is drop in- IE same T3 inlet and can be used as a daily driver on a car that has modified it's IP in some form? This basically rules out any VNT/VGT. RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - aaa - 10-23-2011 Have you looked at the 603 turbos? I wonder what the map on something like a 350SDL turbo is like. What're you bumping against with your current turbo anyhow? RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - MTUPower - 10-23-2011 (10-23-2011, 05:18 PM)aaa Have you looked at the 603 turbos? I wonder what the map on something like a 350SDL turbo is like. What're you bumping against with your current turbo anyhow? A myna pump with an IC is worthy of a "better" turbo than stock. RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - DeliveryValve - 10-23-2011 (10-23-2011, 06:42 PM)MTUPower(10-23-2011, 05:18 PM)aaa Have you looked at the 603 turbos? I wonder what the map on something like a 350SDL turbo is like. What're you bumping against with your current turbo anyhow? Truthfully, I think your SAAB intercooler is a restriction and causing your smoking problem. You might get a better results without it and going back to a stock direct setup. But I do think a bigger turbo without with a different IC would be better. Here are some I think may work, although some may disagree. GT35 Ball bearing turbo, this may be close on the surge line but I think it's OK. EDIT: Looking at the maps. These maybe to too big even for the Myna pump. I estimate it puts it past the surge lines. But you won't actually know it until you try it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garrett-GT3582R-GT35R-Ball-Bearing-Turbo-T3-T4-63A-R-/290582740400?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item43a814bdb0#ht_6061wt_753 http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-70-HYBRID-BALL-BEARING-TURBO-CHARGER-GT35-GT3582R-/220814174434?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item33698ce8e2#ht_3826wt_911 . RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - MFSuper90 - 10-23-2011 Is an hx30 too small for the om617? RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - DeliveryValve - 10-23-2011 These are probably a better fit if it's a T3 setup - GT30R. Again with ball bearings... Which I am a fan of it for quicker spooling in lue of a VNT. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garrett-GT-Series-Ball-Bearing-GT30R-/300612901016?pt=Race_Car_Parts&vxp=mtr&hash=item45fdecd898#ht_500wt_949 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garrett-GT3076R-GT30R-GT3037-Turbo-Ball-bearing-550HP-/370230703396?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item5633783524#ht_4799wt_698 . Now the harder part is finding one i can afford RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - led-panzer - 10-24-2011 If your going to spend Garrett money, those master power R series turbos looked pretty damn good. First one in the compressor map link looks great for a 617 RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - DeliveryValve - 10-24-2011 (10-24-2011, 05:29 PM)led-panzer If your going to spend Garrett money, those master power R series turbos looked pretty damn good. First one in the compressor map link looks great for a 617 Yes I seen that. It does sound intriguing when your at that type of money. I like to see the maps of the R474, R494 and R544/545. . RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - MTUPower - 10-24-2011 (10-23-2011, 08:00 PM)DeliveryValve Truthfully, I think your SAAB intercooler is a restriction and causing your smoking problem. But I do think a bigger turbo without with a different IC would be better.I have no smoke issues now that the timing is set to 19 degrees. There is less power, but nearly zero smoke. That tells me I need to move the timing closer to the 24 little by little and the magic number would be different for each turbo I believe. Remember I'm looking for a daily driver turbo- these "R" s units look good. For that money I might have someone build me a VGT setup as I do not have the time to design. build and install one. RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - dieselmeken - 10-27-2011 To the 617 engine that my friend has in his Land Rover, a brand new Garret GTX2867R is ordered. It´s not on the market yet, a new product that is pressuretested up to 2,5 bar. We calculate 2,2 bar for app 250 hp. The pump is for the moment 6 mm, 90cc, if it dont is enough I build a new pump. I come back when we have installet the beast. RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - Captain America - 10-28-2011 The beast is right! I wanna see! RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - kmaser - 11-12-2011 I'm finishing up the rebuild of my 617a and it will soon find it's way back into my gwagen, I haven't run it yet but I have my MW pump with Tomnik's 6.5mm elements installed. The plan is to run a VGT/VNT at some point but for now I am looking for a conventional turbo to run. The G wagen has 6.17 : 1 gears and 37" tires so I am more focused on bottom end than top end as it revs out quickly anyway, that being said I need a turbo that won't turn into a heat pump at the top end. The GT30R as suggested here looks promising but what configuration and AR should I be looking for ( T3 inlet, AR ? , internal waste gate ? , exhaust outlet V-band etc..? ) It looks like the cosworth housing might work well T3 inlet and the outlet looks close to the 3 bolt outlet on my stock K26 but no internal waste gate ? looking for some input thanks RE: Best drop in turbo for the 617 with modified IP - DeliveryValve - 11-13-2011 Someone else should chime in to be sure. But I really like the map on this GT3071R turbo for your application. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garrett-GT3071R-HKS-GT2835-TURBO-4-BOLT-GT-T31-AR-63-/370279771622?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item563664ede6#ht_2458wt_1071 Garrett GT3071R (HKS GT2835) TURBO 4 BOLT GT T31 AR.63 Ideally for faster spolling for lower RPMs, you'll need to have the turbine a/r .63 or lower. Some of these vendors that sell GT30R' with a .48 a/r like the one I posted earlier would be great for you, but at the higher end, it will choke. That particular turbo is a GT3076R, which would not spool faster then the GT3071R, has an advantage of having a anti-surge housing for running higher boost. In any case I still like the GT3071R for the pump you have. Now if the GT2871R can be had in a T3, (it is a T25 turbo) it might be a better lower RPM choice. .
