tie rod reuse - larsalan - 01-07-2012 What is the deal with tie rods? I mean I know it will be hard to adjust these old rusty ones very much but.... Are they in general meant to just be set for length once and that's it? I'm so broke I can't afford any new ones now. But when I do get a couple new ones how many times can you expect to unclamp the threads and turn that turnbuckle from time to time? Or are they supposed to just be set once for their lifespan? RE: tie rod reuse - Greazzer - 01-07-2012 I have used them, removed them, and re-used them. And about 3 years ago when I was too broke to pay attention, I ended up using a pair of junkyard tie rod assemblies which appeared almost new and they worked fine. Not sure if there is anything out there in the FSM, however. RE: tie rod reuse - larsalan - 01-07-2012 Ya, I just lengthened one of mine by 2 turns on one end. It was really stuck there. I didn't get the end to seat really flat in where it goes. The inside, not the wheel side. Anyway it's well jank and should just have a new clean one. |
