Front Sway Bar Options & Information - Greazzer - 01-12-2012

Howdy Everyone --

Application: our beloved MB W123 Chassis Platforms, EG 240D, 300D, et cet. up to 1985.

I currently have a 24mm front sway bar. I understand the front sway bars came in 3 flavors: 22/23mm, 24mm and 25mm. Am I missing anything or not accurately reflecting what the options are? If so, please let me know.

As for the front sway bar, which one is the zinger??? And why ??? My front end is apart, engine is out, and this IS the time to upgrade (or not). Thanks, and as always, this is a GREAT forum with GREAT members!

Usually bigger is better and the logic would be they put bigger ones on the bigger engines.

It's the same case for tie-rods / steering stuff.

However IMHO for the sway bar, 1mm isn't much - might not be any difference - not even on a track, let alone on regular roads, if you drive it the way the design invites you to - i.e. in a Regal fashion....

Part number on a 25 mm front sway bar I pulled from a 1979 300D wagon is 123 323 (5)065 (*mistaken, see next two posts*) --the 5 in parentheses might be a 6. It's stamped on the left prong, outer side, about 4 inches back from the circular spacer.

I have a 25mm bar that came of a 1985 300TD - part number on that is 123 323 69 65.

By golly you're right, that is a 9 not a zero. And I'll believe it's a 6. So, 123 323 69 65 it is.

Yup, that's consistent with the "larger engine - larger sway bar" theory, just like tie rods - but then again IMHO it's still no biggie...
