OM617 will not start - mycodiesel - 01-12-2012

hello,
i have a 1982 Mercedes 300sd, recently the engine will not turn over? the engine rotates but no ignition, so far i have checked for leaks coming into the IP, changed all filters, drained fuel from tank and filled with fresh diesel. i also checked that fuel was reaching the IP from the tank and everything seems free of blockage. however, i also check if fuel was being delivered to my injectors from the pump, and it seems that there is very little. this is also the case at the deliver valves, very little fuel exists from them.
so, not sure what the problem is, possible failed IP or maybe the shut off switch is damaged? any ideas? thank you in advance.

Do you try to use a jug of diesel. Skip the tank all together and see if you can run supply and returns into a jug of fuel.

Yeah this sounds weird. How did the fuel drain from the tank? right out the bottom? Make sure you keep the battery charged up with all the cranking you're doing.
What is with the fuel filters? Are they both clean? That pre filter you can see if it is f-ed up but the other spin on one may be blocked and you dont even know.

I dunno about that fuel cutoff being stuck on shutoff. Could be but I havent heard of that being a common issue

Sounds like you have some air in your lines.

ya that too. you have a dash light for those. And you can use some wire to do a continuity test. Just look for a spark. We can explain more.

I heard if you have 1 plug out you may not know,
two out you may have a bitch of a time starting
three and you're out of luck
though I have started an om617 with 3 out for sure. But it was quite warm outside.

well wtf air? I never understandf that. Doesnt fuel displace the air? Is it stuttering like one or two cylinders are burning?
It's not even cold in organ is it?

keep that battery topped off

Yeah starting is a bitch without glowplugs, been there done that. Mine are now controlled by a push button and a ford starter solenoid

You said it was running and shut off on the FB group post right? I would bet on the lift pump! You have fuel up to the engine bay but no fuel at injectors. Take the line off after the lift pump and crank the car to see if there is fuel.
