85 w126 - oldtown - 02-11-2012 i have a very cool 300sd and have wondered for some time if my shocks or springs were bad due to the rear end sag and sometimes poor handling. i think that some of the poor handling was due to the S rated tires whcih did not have enough tire wall strength. i now have some H rated tires which seem to be much better. my question is about the HD springs and shocks. my main objective is to get rid of the rear end sag. i like the ride but hate the sag. Will the HD springs and regular shocks eliminate my problem? i live in western NC and there are a lot of hills and curves. i dont want a super stiff ride but would like a little better handling . money is not too much of an object with this project, so i can get what i need. Also, if i do the rear suspension job is there anything else i should replace while it is torn apart, i.e. bushing etc. i had looked at getting a bigger sway bar but i dont think it would be that noticeable for the work involved. after this is done ill look into new injectors and some IP work. any suggestions there.? RE: 85 w126 - serverman777 - 02-11-2012 Yes The stocks and new springs will help tons. I dont think you need a bigger sway bar. The rear suspension is pretty simple on a w126. RE: 85 w126 - aaa - 02-11-2012 New springs, new subframe bushings, new diff bushing. Each will left the rear end up a little. RE: 85 w126 - willbhere4u - 02-11-2012 I have Bilstine HD on my car and it rides like it on a cloud and helped lift it up a bit plus if handles great around corners RE: 85 w126 - oldtown - 02-11-2012 thanks for the quick feedback. so do i go with HD springs and HD bilsteins on the rear? Or HD springs and regular shocks? on the front do i just replace the front with regular bilsteins and leave the springs alone? |
