240D clutch strong enough for 3.0L? - Torkey - 02-13-2012 I recently put a 240D 4 speed manual into my 300SD. Love the manual transmission. Really improves the performance and driver enjoyment. The only problem is that the clutch slips occasionally. I checked the fritcion plate before installing and it was okay. Thinking it's either a weak pressure plate or that the clutch isn't strong enough for the 3.0L turbo. Anyone have any thoughts on this? RE: 240D clutch strong enough for 3.0L? - vstef_is - 02-13-2012 AFAIK It's the same disc / pressure plate for 240D / 300D Perhaps yours is worn out. I had similar issues on a 300D, got a new disc and plate combo (well they weren't new, just second hand but in good order, and from a 240D) and it works great. RE: 240D clutch strong enough for 3.0L? - Purplecomputer - 02-13-2012 The 240 tranny is strong enough. Many people like to swap it an put it on a turbp engine. I would replace the clutch and whatever else you see needs to go. RE: 240D clutch strong enough for 3.0L? - vstef_is - 02-13-2012 240 non turbo versus 300 non turbo is actually the same tranny. Clutch as well. (Check MB Classic wiki) RE: 240D clutch strong enough for 3.0L? - ronnie - 02-14-2012 I'd like to know the ultimate limit for a 240 clutch. I've turbo'd and have a reasonably aggresive fuel settings, with plans to go more. No slipping yet. |
