Graminal's 240DT - Graminal95 - 02-21-2012 I have done so many odd things to my car over the years and thought maybe it might be time to start sharing them with everyone. My latest addition is a W126 560SEL speedo, which I will be running from an arduino so that I can swap diffs and easily correct for the ratio change on the speedo. Not that my car will ever top 120 even with the 5 speed, but that was what I could get from the yard. I have already converted the OEM tach to read my EGT probe, but will be swapping it out for the 560SEL tach since it goes to 7K and not 6k. It will also be controlled by the arduino and allow me to display the value from many different sensors on the tach. RE: Graminal's 240DT - willbhere4u - 02-21-2012 Check this out if you like custom gauges http://revlimiter.net/mods/gauges.php I'll have to look in to that arduino for controlling the speedometer. I'm currently working on a BMW 320i that has a 325i 6cylinder/5spd in it and no speedometer cable attachment on the transmission. I was going to grab an electric speedometer and mount a pick up wheel on the rear cv joint so being able to calibrate it would be nice and I,m swapping a 6spd manual in to my 300sdl and want to get an LSD in the future Welcome to the board please keep us updated! Is your 240d turbo still a 616 4cyl? or did you swap the 300d engine I've got a turbo on my original 240d engine RE: Graminal's 240DT - Graminal95 - 02-21-2012 That is a very interesting site I know I will be revisiting in the future. It very easy to control the MB speedo, all you need is a small pulse input over 100mv and duty cycle of over 3.2%. My speedo showed 100mph at 220hz, but others will be different since they may not have been matched to a 2.47 diff. The ideal engine/gearbox for me would be a 606 and 6 speed from a 230, but that's a dream at this point. I can only imagine how nice a 603 and 6 speed will be in an S class. THe 560SEL I pulled the cluster from may have an LSD, to bad your not on the east coast. At the moment the 240DT has a 616 in it. I want to drop in a 617, but am wrestling with the cost of head work, and other parts needed for the swap. RE: Graminal's 240DT - willbhere4u - 02-21-2012 My 6spd is from a c230 kompressor If/when my 603 engine needs a head I'm going om606! Take some pics of your turbo set up on the 240d I have a rajay set up on my car it old and inefficient but fun! RE: Graminal's 240DT - Purplecomputer - 02-21-2012 lets see that turbo! I too am also adding in a turbo. Almost done with all the part list! RE: Graminal's 240DT - ronnie - 02-21-2012 heres mine with a k26 turbo RE: Graminal's 240DT - Graminal95 - 02-21-2012 Ronnie, I like the look of your stock setup. I made my setup from an STT exhaust manifold, W115 300D intake, Sierra Cosworth (2wd) Intercooler, 60's ford falcon radiator (its all copper, 3 core, and really cheap), Volvo 850R turbo, and some other bits and bobs here and there. I don;t have any new images with the mitsu 3000gt air cleaner, but I'll take some soon. In the mean time here is the rad./intercooler install page. https://plus.google.com/photos/118439711238655582713/albums/5323965419769895121 Turbo install https://plus.google.com/photos/118439711238655582713/albums/5216375700321335217 5 Speed (Getrag 265) install https://plus.google.com/photos/118439711238655582713/albums/5259079060586018593 RE: Graminal's 240DT - willbhere4u - 02-21-2012 That's cool here was my build http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thread-240-Turbo?highlight=240d+turbo Is that trans from a BMW 535i I know they used the 265 I bet that shifts nice compared to the Benz 5spd. nice job on the bell housing I like!!! is it a stock clutch? RE: Graminal's 240DT - Graminal95 - 02-22-2012 I have been lurking here for years and remember reading your thread when you first started posting. It nice to see a few turbo'd 240D's out there. It is from a 535, and has the same ratios as the MB 5 speed. I made everything so that I could swap the 4 speed back without any hassle, so everything is stock besides the clutch slave/hose, shifter, and drive shaft front section. RE: Graminal's 240DT - ronnie - 02-22-2012 I wanted to keep a stock look to it. Plus I had the parts laying around. No intercooler, may do one later, but larger elements in the ip are the next thing. Right now boost is about 5 psi at 70mph, maxes to 12 psi. no waste gate, took it off and plugged the ports. I am happy with this turbo, it does build boost quickly. I did use the pc's from a 617a. machined the head to fit them, and reamed the burn holes out .010". I really think the pc's are a major restriction. In my old engine before turbo it made about a 10% gain with no other mods. This was after ip adjustments though. So made ip adjustments, some improvement, enlarged burn holes even more improvement. On a pure stock engine it may not make any differance. Now Purple needs to get some time to turbo his..... |
