Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-15-2012 I came to conclusion that its too hard to find the 1987 190TD in my area in USA. So i found out they had a 1990-1993 300TD with the!! Fuel efficient+very capable 2.5L inline 5 turbo diesel. (I don't want the 6cyl/5cyl 3.0L, I heard the 5cyl 2.5/ 4cyl 2.2 gets way better mpg) I need your help. I would like to know the differences.. like... curb weight (having a difficult time figuring this out) I think they are both 4 spd auto rwd though. Comment on your part of your 1987TD or other N/A 2.5L MPG I keep hearing people are claiming 30-40MPG with the 1987 TD and N/A So that means the 1990-1993 could do same? unless its way heavier or something like that.. Also what are you getting in your 300td MPG wise? (90-93 2.5 5cyl only please) Future plans if this all sounds right and I buy one. 1. Dieselmeken pump mod to 150-250HP safely + without smoking so I don't get in trouble by the cops. 2. manual trans swap after. RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - waz - 03-15-2012 '93 300D 2.5L turbo 4sp auto rwd. Average 26-28mpg about 80% in town driving. Not quite what I'd call city traffic but, 5 minutes late and my cummute time doubles, 8-10 miles each way depending on traffic and construction. (I try to be 10 minutes early.) Worst mileage for a tank ever, 24.9mpg. Lots of idling while scraping the windshield and other idling while working on the car. Plus a bunch of WOT runs to check for smoke with ALDA adjustment. Hey, if the mileage will suck on that tank, get it all at once. Best mileage ever, 34.4mpg about 50/50 cruising and in town. Never have gone far enough with this car to run only highway miles on a tank. It's just now been a year since I bought the car. It needed a lot of little things done to be a very good daily driver. RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-15-2012 thats not bad... Good Job.. Cause if it does 24-35mpg.. Ill be very happy with that. Maybe some days ill get 30-40. Who knows. Thx you for your review. go manual swap it now! lol (probably give it 5-10% more mpg ) Oh how is it with inspection? Is it fun to drive? The automatic is preferred with those that have higher HP. "Were STREAKING!!, STREAKING, EVERYBODI is DOING IT" http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ixERCJfGyeY#t=109s I forget which trans they are swapping them with. But be nice if they had a nice strong 6spd tall gearing manual to mate with. Manual transmisson, GS5-39dz from a BMW e39 530d can handle around 1000nm RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012 THx you sir. I heard about one of those. is it a 5spd or 6? what years did it come out? and if that trans is too expensive.. what others mate that are good. I heard there are some for MB that had stronger 5spd mate easy. RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - EDH_Performance - 03-16-2012 (03-16-2012, 08:56 AM)Twinturboguy THx you sir. I heard about one of those. Its a 5 speed with a 1:1 on 5th It is from the E39 series, around 99-01. It isn`t bolt on, but can handle the power! The 6speed from the cdi models(200/220) is stronger than the old crappy 717 5speed! RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012 O.o Ill look into those CDI 200/220 MB? I like to go as far as researching all the parts and see if people have them local etc. its nice to keep an eye out. hows the fitment for the CDI 200-220.? interested in a 6spd Will any of these fit good? strong? http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Transmission-Drivetrain-/33726/i.html?_nkw=manual&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_mqf=0&_qfkw=1&_sop=16&_trksid=p4506.c0.m273&Make=Mercedes%252DBenz http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-MERCEDES-C230-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-/230736131268?hash=item35b8f1f4c4&item=230736131268&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_3378wt_992 http://www.ebay.com/itm/08-11-Mercedes-C300-6-Speed-Manual-Transmission-40K-OEM-/200714889625?hash=item2ebb8a2999&item=200714889625&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_2849wt_980 http://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-02-MERCEDES-C230-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-/190652219612?hash=item2c63c200dc&item=190652219612&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_3195wt_988 RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - willbhere4u - 03-16-2012 My 1987 300sdl gets 24mpg with the 3.0 6cyl average. And on one road trip got 29mpg with the auto but I'm swapping in a 6spd manual with over drive I'm hoping that will help worst mileage 22mpg when I first got it with a bunch of fuel leaks on the injection pump Last tank mixed driving 25mpg or 450mile per fill up I'm hoping to get it to 500 mile per tank RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012 So so not bad... but thats why not getting 6cyl check out the difference. but Enjoy. I bet it has power. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=3411&id=1864 something about the damn 2.2L 2.5L they are insane on MPG. RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - waz - 03-16-2012 (03-15-2012, 02:04 PM)Twinturboguy thats not bad... Good Job.. Inspection in NJ for a pre '96 Diesel is,,,, clean off the sticker and drive. I'm sure if you're blowing too much smoke all the time, you would probably get pulled over and given a ticket. But, no safety inspection and no emission inspection for 1995 and older diesels. To me it's fun to drive. Since the ALDA adjustment it surprises most people that ride in it and realize it's a diesel. I can't beat everyone at a light but, I can pull out in traffic with confidence. RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - willbhere4u - 03-16-2012 Well the w126 is like two times bigger than a w201 When you considering its the size of a big caddie and gets near 30mpg its pretty impressive I bet this engine in a 201 could get insane mpg RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012 Yeah very impressive. Confused why they label the 1990-1993 TD 300D tag.. as it is 2,900-3,200 pounds. and yours looks like a tank hehe. 300Td 90-93 is basically a 190d just fancier right? Also so for inspect every two years we pick up a sticker? or hows that work lol. For it to be so simple, if confuses me! ah lol RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - willbhere4u - 03-16-2012 The 1990-1993 300td is a w124 chassis its between the w201 and the w126 in size and weight Its the midsize car of the bunch in my opinion it just right! like a 5 series BMW There very rare but they did make a 86-87? 524td turbo diesel bmw with a 2.4 6cylinder diesel in the US for like 2 years RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012 So the 90-93 300td is a hybrid :p RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - aaa - 03-16-2012 (03-16-2012, 09:12 AM)Twinturboguy Will any of these fit good? 2002 C-class would be one of the ones that sort of fit. The shifter opening in the trans tunnel had to be widened for it, see here: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thread-my-w124-606-962-Superturbodiesel?page=2 The 90+ W124 is about 500lbs heavier than the 190. RE: Alternative to rare 190TD = 90-93 300TD (need your MPG input too!) - Twinturboguy - 03-19-2012 Thx! Woah looks like hes holding 500-700 LBTQ not too concerned about shifter. I got to pm him if he has pics of the whole trans install. Also I googled it and the difference from 190 87 2.5 diesel turbo Vs 190 (90-93) 2.5 diesel turbo.. Its like 100-250lbs difference from numbers I've seen. |
