Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 05-16-2012 Picked these wheels up today, figured what the hell since they were certainly cheap enough. Anyway, they don't have any info on them other than 16X7, and DOT-T, and then some max load number and a couple other random letters. Don't even have offset marked on them. Just trying to identify them is all, thanks for lookin! RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - larsalan - 05-16-2012 nice. Put some rubber on those and lets see how they look on your 123 RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Purplecomputer - 05-16-2012 KOWABUNGA RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 05-16-2012 (05-16-2012, 07:01 PM)larsalan nice. Put some rubber on those and lets see how they look on your 123 I checked them out (without tires obviously) and it looks like I'm not gonna have any real problems with them. They fit right up, and looked good. I might have to roll the fenders a little more just to make sure they don't rub though. (funny thing is the front are rolled already and the back aren't, so one of the previous owners must have done it?) (05-16-2012, 07:03 PM)Purplecomputer Lol, wtf!?!? haha that picture is awesome though. Unfortunately, the chrome is less than spectacular on them, so I'm not sure what to do about that RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Purplecomputer - 05-16-2012 [/quote] Lol, wtf!?!? haha that picture is awesome though. RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 05-17-2012 Yeah, now I just need to find some center caps for them, that and figure out what my options are with the whole chrome coming off situation lol Alright they are Centra T31 wheels, made by Ronal I believe RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Purplecomputer - 05-20-2012 (05-17-2012, 02:17 AM)sassparilla_kid Yeah, now I just need to find some center caps for them, that and figure out what my options are with the whole chrome coming off situation lol I would maybe see if you can like a black lip around them. Might help with the edges so you dont have to re chrome them or something, Maybe all black wheels, that would be cool RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 05-20-2012 I'm thinking about getting them powder coated, so hopefully I find a job sometime soon to afford all this stuff, because I'm running out of money lol Not sure what color I wanna go with yet RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Purplecomputer - 05-20-2012 (05-20-2012, 02:05 PM)sassparilla_kid I'm thinking about getting them powder coated, so hopefully I find a job sometime soon to afford all this stuff, because I'm running out of money lol depending on what the color of the car is you should get one that compliments it. I think it would look great, Get that really retro look RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 05-20-2012 The car is tan, or whatever the Mercedes name is, I think it is like "Light Ivory" or something along those lines. I was thinking about getting them powder coated close to what the stock bundts were like, and then having them put a clear coat over that, so it will be super durable and hopefully super easy to clean, especially if I get ceramic brake pads RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-04-2012 I got the wheels powder coated, then went to get tires mounted. One of them is bent and the powder coating is too thick so they won't fit on the hubs.. Gah fuuuuuuuck RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - DeliveryValve - 08-04-2012 Time to break out the grinder to widen up the hub hole and a big hammer to to straighten that wheel! . RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-05-2012 I used a flapper wheel to open the holes back up a little, and just put the bent wheel on the rear. Didn't notice any shaking or anything too bad, so just gonna live with it until I can get it straightened out or find a new one. On another note, I talked to my powder coating guy earlier. He said he had a guy check them for cracks, balance, and roundness, and they were all fine, and all of the wheels took quite a bit of weight, especially the bent one. So from that I can gather that a) the tires were really out of balance and they did a poor job mounting them, and b) they bent my wheel. I'm gonna go try and squeeze some money out of them this week to either pay to get the wheel fixed and re-coated, or buy me a replacement wheel, and if they don't I'm reporting them to the California BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair), of which my friend's grandpa used to be president of before he retired I'll try to get a closer pic of the wheels in a little bit RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Hercules - 08-05-2012 Not taking sides; things to consider. How did guy check for roundness,is his work always correct?? Was he distracted(phone call)etc.. Is fitting the tires the problem or tires poorly manufactured. Less expensive tires are known for this. (balance problems) Ck out how tires are being mounted & balanced. Just how could wheel have been bent??On the outer rim I could understand. normally wheel must take a hard hit, like hitting a curb while on the car in speeds of more than 5mph and up. Just dropping the wheel, not going to do that. So does shop installing tires go for a test drive? many don"t. So was wheel already bent when buying?? Try to find out what happened that COULD bend the wheel. May the truth be found! RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-05-2012 Yeah I don't know how they were checked, he just said he has a friend that does wheel stuff check them out to make sure they were usable before doing any work on them, because he didn't want to waste his time and my money. I went to America's Tire, which I am never returning to regardless, because I had other issues while I was there, like them not wanting to put the wheels I drove over there on back on the car because they thought they "weren't safe", and I had to make a point that unless they wanted my car on their lift indefinitely they needed to put them back on, and a bunch of stuff like that. I do think the tires were poorly manufactured, because all of them took quite a bit of weight to balance. I'm just happy I was able to get them on the car, and that there didn't seem to be any real vibration issues or anything when I took the car for a test drive (up to 85+ mph, around the top 5-10 mph it felt a little funky though) RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Hercules - 08-06-2012 Usually if tire takes over 2ounces of weight I refuse it.To be arranged with management prier to installation in writing on r.o. I believe that comes out to about 20lbs at 60mph. Not saying to go back there but law prohibits unsafe conditions to be allowed, two ways to get car back, first sign ticket if unsafe, car to be pushed to curb by owner, can drive from there or tow away, both re-leave shop from liability most of the time. Remember I"m not taking sides, just know many of the rules. Mbz cars are very sensitive on quality of tire, the 126 the most. Many tires that have a straight tread will follow the groves in the road, hunt or not feel steady at higher speeds. Best of rolling to you. RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-06-2012 Thanks! I have the wheels and tires on now, at first they felt a little funky but after letting a little air out there doesn't seem to be any problems with them, up to 85mph that is I'm going to see if I can get the bent wheel straightened out at some point RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Purplecomputer - 08-06-2012 Those look really nice, proud of you! RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-06-2012 (08-06-2012, 09:35 PM)Purplecomputer Those look really nice, proud of you! Thanks man, still not as nice looking as those euro lights and bumpers you got on your car! Maybe after I get some for my car it'll look that good RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - Simpler=Better - 08-07-2012 Pick up a hub with the same bolt pattern, I know rangers/ exploders/ crown vics share the pattern and balance the rims yourself with a dremel on the inside lip RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - DeliveryValve - 08-07-2012 I dig the look of these rims on your car. Great find! Hopefully it will all work out.. Now get/make some nice looking center caps! Perhaps something like this. . RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - zacharias - 08-07-2012 (05-17-2012, 02:17 AM)sassparilla_kid Alright they are Centra T31 wheels, made by Ronal I believe Yes those are Centras and you will have a challenge finding center caps as the caps weren't top quality and they deteriorate before the rest of the wheel. Sets of these used to show up on eBay regularly for cheap due to funky center caps. RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-07-2012 Yeah I really need some caps for these. Trying to think of any and all options, and even possibly making some. Where did you find that pic, DeliveryValve?? I'm thinking if I could fins some blank center caps that would be sweet, or something that could easily be modified. The center area is about 7-7/8" across, so I need a center about 8-1/4" to 8-1/2" or so I think, and then I could just attach some kind of tab in the back to fit into the groove in the wheel, and drill a hole for an allen head screw or something to hold them on If only these were about half an inch larger diameter http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-GMC-15-Smooth-Aluminum-Wheel-Rim-Center-Hub-Caps-/380345157056?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item588e5685c0 RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - DeliveryValve - 08-07-2012 (08-07-2012, 09:01 PM)sassparilla_kid Yeah I really need some caps for these. It looks like they are attached via the hub hole. Maybe you can come up with something like that if your going custom to attach the cap. On another note, The VW new Beatle center caps are about 7 3/4 or 200mm. It might work modified with the logo stripped off. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-Wheel-Center-Cap-New-Beetle-16-Set-of-4pcs-/180614362854?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0d7476e6&vxp=mtr#ht_2691wt_836 . RE: Mystery Wheeeeeeeeels!!! - sassparilla_kid - 08-08-2012 Yeah I have been looking at a variety of blank GM center caps, all of which are held on by spring loaded clips near the edge, which would be perfect because there is a groove that goes all the way around the center for them to grab on to Here is a front and back of a Cadillac center, I'm trying to see if I can find some blank ones, or even some baby moons or whatever that I can just sort of shove in there, anything to cover the lugs and hub sticking through. Hopefully I am able to find something with a bit of an overlap so it looks more like its supposed to, then I can always drill holes in the middle and steal the stars off my other wheels (already tried the caps from those ones, too small) |
