a. my injector pump: dieselmenken, you've got my attention. i'm running 65-cetane biodiesel. Others?

not to hijack this thread, but why would adding a fuel pump help? I thought pushing more fuel makes the car smoke.

On pre 2004 tdi's, it helps responsiveness and reduces the strain on the IP - I assume it's the same with these cars? I'm curious what 1 of the vets says.

On my 300's I have always battled getting enough fuel to the IP. Seems as though any little restriction or negative pressure in the tank starves the engine. There are many threads where guys have only measured about 10 psi @ the IP inlet. With around 30 psi, the car(s) responded and ran much better. If it smoke, you just need more boost, thats all. More fuel will help a 616 engine too, just not as much as a 617a
Plus the lifter pump is a horsepower parasite.

I’ve been considering bypassing my lift pump since I put in my Walbro pump a while ago. It seems to get starved of fuel the lower it gets in my tank, mostly at low RPM’s. Is that a bad idea? The FRC-8 I have is supposed to push at 30 PSI.

What do you mean it gets starved of fuel? A fuel pump will only make pressure based on a restriction in the line. Most inline EFI pumps will make 100psi if that is what you restrict the line to. OK the FRC -8 will make 9-12 psi if you dead head the line (no return) and flow 28gph

Why not adjust/replace the spring or whatever in the stock lift pump that gets worn out, to get the fuel pressure back up?

that's what I did, replaced the fuel pump spring with one from a 617a(i have a 616), and the relief valve spring. With some stretching on the relief valve spring I am now running 28psi at cruising speed, about 25 at full throttle.
I would have to wonder how much power the lift pump takes? It would seem to me not enough to worry about unless every single hp mattered.
