722.118 high stall convertor ? - RonB - 09-20-2012 In the projects section i mentioned buy a W123 300TD with a STT turbo fitted. The wagons trans was flaring pretty badly into third.A sniff of the fluid was enough to both turn my guts and tell me the trans was cooked. The extra cooler mounted under the left front fender tells me that the car set up to be abused.. .I dropped the pan and found the K2 snap ring lying in the bottom... I find that the convertor is also an odd one The normal convertor is a #123 25001 02 (10.2 stamped next to this, i am not too sure what this means.Slip ratio?) But this one is a #116 250 01 02 (35.0) . The nearest I can find to this in the EPC is a M116 3.5 liter V8 convertor which is #1162501102 . After I pulled the trans so I could look further into the 'issue' and found that the K2 clutch outer plate was installed back to front( the disc lining was gone completely and some are warped) and the next clutch drums release springs were a few short. you can't buy them anymore apparently.. So after buying a few parts including a second trans to get some more parts i have built one trans from two. I was wondering if anyone else has used one of these to raise the stall speed? I am going to reuse this convertor and i have fitted 20 clutch release springs. The car,apart from the lack of third , pulled quite smoothly and was easy to drive around at lower speeds compared with a regular 300 D (NA) . The convertor that was in the wagon The B2 band is from the donor trans and was typically burnt after the previous owner kept driving with a leaky vacuum circuit. RE: 722.118 high stall convertor ? - RonB - 09-20-2012 thanks for the link to that thread , I did find this with plenty of info from page 100. http://www.kingomatic.com/documents/08_TC_Cat_lo.pdf I can see now that the convertor is a 300 series V8 (3.5 ,4.5 ) so I will reuse it anyway. The WSM will have stall speeds listed so I'll have a look there just for curiosities sake. Cheers! |
