W115 transmission upgrade!? - gaiex - 10-28-2012
Hello,
I'm upgrading my stock motor to OM603/606 with auto gear box (maybe 722.5 or 722.6) but I think I also need different transmission axle and diff setup to handle the power.
Which transmission could fit and handle the higher power (~300hp)?

The 722.6 was my choice since it can handle more torq, but can it work without the Ole controller, or even without engine ECU like in a OM603?
About the rear axle, any better shaft's that I can install without major modiffications?
I'm investing alot of money on this w115 and there is not enough for now to install a 2260vklr on my OM642
PS: diesel2fast4u any news about your Jeep, did you saw my post on MBworld about the DPF reset? I don't know why but even if you delete the map some values stay there, only after doing reset to the DPF values, or program a new DPF install on DAS system you can delete the map or doing some DPF map modifications, because ECU stores the usage of DPF somewhere else. About this you can reply on MBworld!

Any Differential/final-drive from any R107, W114, W115, W123, W126 made Before Mid 1985 can be made to fit.
After 1985, the mounting is entirely different and is known as the 'second-generation' models--You would need to change the subframe and maybe more to use the second gen type--dunno if its even been done.
Choose the diff ratio to suit your trans/engine combo from a pre 1985 car listed above in the MB range and you wont go too far wrong!....
As to the Trans, a 722.3 from a 300D W124 may be a good start, may need to increase the number of clutch-plates to handle the extra power--limit of my present knowledge
Clutch plates come in different thicknesses to account for the same space in the clutch.
Lots of thin ones for the high torque applications so I gather....
