tips for pulling motor - jenyus - 02-11-2013 so im yanking the motor from my 80 300sd either tonight or wednesday night to get it ready for my jeep. are there any tips you guys have for pulling the motor? anything that might not be obvious that you've learned the hard way? or something that makes it easier? thanks guys! RE: tips for pulling motor - Simpler=Better - 02-11-2013 An engine tilter will save you a TON of trouble. They're worth the $50, you will definitely want one if you're swapping motors. Also, drain the fluids before you pull it. The coolant drain is a 17mm hex headed plug on the passenger side under the alternator. Don't forget, that's a 600# ish motor. Don't stand under it when it's in the air it will flatten you RE: tips for pulling motor - Greazzer - 02-11-2013 Are you scrapping the W123 body. If so, just cut out the radiator support (obvioulsy, remove the radiator and condensor). That will make things a lot simpler. It would be a shame to cut it up RE: tips for pulling motor - Greazzer - 02-11-2013 (02-11-2013, 03:26 PM)Simpler=Better He has a pristine California 1980 300SD. It would be a shame to cut it up oh ... don't cut that up then. I thought you were just getting a motor / keeping a motor. RE: tips for pulling motor - jenyus - 02-11-2013 Cool thanks! If no one buys the rest of the car for $350 (with an almost perfect body) I'll scrap it, so if there's no interest by the time I yank it, I'll start cutting. It is a shame! Car is in such good shape, but I don't need it as a yard ornament! RE: tips for pulling motor - sassparilla_kid - 02-11-2013 What condition is the interior in? RE: tips for pulling motor - jenyus - 02-11-2013 Dash is cracked, drivers seat has a couple tears, the rest of the interior is in great condition! I'll take some pictures tomorrow and put them in the for sale thread |
