617 nozzles in 603 injector bodies...pros/cons? - SurfRodder - 02-21-2013 Did a quick search and didn't get definitive answer... hopefully Greazzer or someone else can answer this... After the debacle that killed my 617, I bought the '87 with the 603 in it.... anyway, one of the backburner projects I never got around to on the '83 was rebuilding and pop testing the injectors for the OM617. I do have a set of 5 monarch nozzles still all sealed up in their tubes and was wondering what the pros/cons are for these which are marked SD261 vs. Whatever is supposed to be installed in the OM603 injectors. Id like to just buy one more and be done with it as IIRC they will physically fit and work, but if there's a compelling reason to use another nozzle, ill just bite the bullet and then sell these here. Thanks in advance! Josh RE: 617 nozzles in 603 injector bodies...pros/cons? - capflya - 02-21-2013 If you want to sell them I have a friend who would probably buy them. Then you could buy the correct nozzles for your 603. As far as differences go... found some info on a peach parts thread here http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/190611-617-vs-603-injectors.html The clif-notes: "The OM616/OM617 engines use the 240/ nozzles with a tiny hole in the tip of the pintle, whereas the OM603 engines use the 265 nozzles with elongated pintles and no holes. " " The OM617 uses two types of nozzles, Three if you include the G wagen 4X4 vehicle version.... The first and oldest is the DNOSD220, side-cut Pintle-nozzle... Second and most popular is the DNOSD240/A central-hole nozzle... G Wagen version uses the DNOSD261 Side-Cut Throttling-Pintle nozzle, Just like the OM-602 and OM-603 N/A engines.... The '261 is a great choice for the '617, as it adds just a little more low-end torque.... The DNOSD265 is a VW Polo/Golf/'Rabbit'?? Nozzle, not normally associated with M.B. in Europe anyway! " RE: 617 nozzles in 603 injector bodies...pros/cons? - Greazzer - 02-22-2013 Howdy, Overall, you can use a 265 or 261 nozzle in a OM617 engine but not really vice-versa. That is, putting a 240 in a 603. Are you looking for just one 265 GERMAN made nozzle ? I recently broke up a really nice set of 603 injectors as one individual just wanted one German 603 injector. Now, I got 5 odd balls so to speak, which sort of worked out since I guess you might need one nozzle. If you need one nice nozzle 265, let me know. $10 bucks plus shipping (USED Nozzle). Thanks, RE: 617 nozzles in 603 injector bodies...pros/cons? - Volker407 - 02-22-2013 (02-21-2013, 02:21 PM)capflya The DNOSD265 is a VW Polo/Golf/'Rabbit'?? Both, 265 and 261 were standard Mercedes nozzles. (02-21-2013, 11:36 AM)SurfRodder .... If I had the choice between 265 and 261, I would use 261 nozzles for the OM603. Maybe Greazzer can also organize you a monark nozzle #6 in new condition. I think I will bug him to see about the final injector...now that means that I have to finally get around to building my pop tester... I got a precision Heise gage (good to 5000 PSI if memory serves) that has a MASSIVE face on it (~25cm or so) so readings should be nice and easy...also picked up a spare port-a-power for the squeeze. Anyway, thanks for the tip Brother! (02-22-2013, 01:10 PM)Greazzer Are you looking for just one 265 GERMAN made nozzle ? I need either one 261 or six 265s, preferably the former if possible...I have 5 261s and no longer have a viable 617 to put them in... RE: 617 nozzles in 603 injector bodies...pros/cons? - Volker407 - 02-27-2013 (02-26-2013, 07:55 PM)SurfRodder Nice! This is exactly what I was looking for. What about the 261 do you prefer?Due to the Mercedes workshop bulletin I have read the 261 are supposed to run a little smoother. It also said all old OM617 nozzles can/should be replaced with 261 or 265 to smooth those OM617s. As a side effect the emissions also improve a little but I think most people don´t care about that.
