W201 190D / OM603 Swap Problems - SoCalRacing - 03-07-2013

Hey everyone,
so I am having some issues with this.

I have a 1987 190D and removed the engine, and planned on installing my OM603 motor in its place. What I have accomplished is removing the 190 motor, and realized a few things...

I can not install the OM603 motor with the W124 transmission attached, because the w124 coupling from the transmission is to large to mate with the driveshaft of the 190.

So after realizing that I took my om603 motor and installed the transmission that came with my 190. It bolted together flawlessly but here is where I'm having my issues.

As I put the om603 motor/190d transmission into the 190D chasis, I can't seem to seat the motor all the way back to the firewall thus preventing me from connecting the driveshaft to the transmission. I can only install ONE motor mount bolt and that is it! I am using the OM603 W124 motor mounts as I've read others using, and I can not figure this out. It's been bothering me for months.

Any insight??

This is what things looked like before the project begun.

If that 603 is a turbo engine, your 190 trans won't have a long life. You might be able to swap internals and retain the small output flange. Many of us guys who fitted 190 transmission to our 124 cars had the W124 driveshafts modified to fit the small output flanges of the 190. I would look into a driveshaft mod. The best setup would be a 185mm diff with a large pinion flange and a shortened w124 driveshaft so you can use the larger diameter flex discs front and rear.

As far a setting the motor in place, what is the trans/engine hitting that prevents it from moving back?

use the 190d engine arms on the 603

My mistake. This entire time I didnt realize I had a jack sitting underneath the motor blocking any movememt as it was wedged under on the oil pan. I finally have both motor mounts bolted, fuel lines attached. I here a few questions on the necessity of some wires/connections but I'll take pictures so anyone with the knowledge will understand what Im asking.

Btw, the OM603 Turbo Motor Mounts make the motor sit perfectly up next to the firewall with 1 1/2" to spare.
