FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 03-17-2013

[Image: 60432_10151279420711534_914698809_n.jpg]

It's the one on the left... Came off of a Detroit Diesel 12L engine. I cannot get measurements from the turbine end but the compressor has a diamater on the top of 65MM and the bottom is IIRC 85-90MM. Compressor outlet is 4" in diamter.

Also sports a factory rebuilt tag on the bearing cartridge. Buy it to show off to your friends, make a gas turbine engine, as man cave art, or just to have.

$135 OBO plus shipping anywhere in the continental US.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - Simpler=Better - 03-17-2013

Can I run this on my 2.5L truck?

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 03-17-2013

Uhhhh add three more engines maybe....

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - Simpler=Better - 03-18-2013

The price is low, but lo and behold...I have no time or money right now Sad

Seeing as a HX35 wouldn't spool past 5psi on a 4L engine this might take a little while to spin up

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 03-18-2013

I thought the hx35 was good for our engines?? The turbo is a GT4202R

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - MFSuper90 - 03-20-2013

65cm inducer?
thats over 2 feet, Thats impossible Huh
possibly 65mm?

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - willbhere4u - 03-21-2013

Not impossible Big Grin

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - MFSuper90 - 03-22-2013

Edit: Impossible for a 4202R Big Grin

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - willbhere4u - 03-22-2013

It's perfect for a compound turbo set up big feeding small

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 03-22-2013

Thanks,
Eric

Sure, I will need to buy a double walled cardboard box to safely ship it since it weighs around 40lbs. Ill get a quote tonight for you.

I honestly could be wrong about the turbo model I have but its cheap for such a massive turbo.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - Simpler=Better - 03-25-2013

Find a place that does "foam in place' basically the fill trash bags with polurethane foam and it expands and forms around the parts. Makes a nice custom cushion. Any place that ships antiques, fine china, etc. should have one.

They also sell FIP bags with a cartridge inside that you crack and mush, then it expands and fills the bag.

Also, it's double walled corrugated not cardboard.

Agrees. The last turbo I bought the guy shipped it on pieces of styrofoam, didn't plug the oil holes, and those little styrofoam balls were EVERYWHERE. It was a pain

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - larsalan - 03-25-2013

Im sure you could do that yourself. Duct tape all the holes, put it in a trash bag, put bag in box, spray in great stuff, wait, remove excess.

You guys probably wont believe me but I did some restoration work on an R2-D2 dome from Return of the Jedi (Dome from Luke's x-wing) and we shipped it in a double walled cardboard box and used a spray foam and it made it just fine.

I plan on shipping it in a double walled carboard box and probably will double wrap the thing in heavy trash bags and use great stuff. I wish I had plugs for the oil fittings and other holes but I think it will be fine.

I will get the Garrett part number off of it tomorrow.

Duct or electrical tape the oil holes shut! Big Grin
But seriously, it does work

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - Simpler=Better - 03-26-2013

Yup, the great stuf trash bag works too but is messier. That's exactly what foam in place is.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 03-26-2013

well its still for sale and the turbo is officially a Garrett TV4502 (Compressor Wheel 64/92 Exducer 82mm)

someone buy it.. you know you want more useless crap

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - Simpler=Better - 03-27-2013

Oh I want it bad, but there ain't no way I'm affording it unless you throw in a set of calipers/hoses for a WJ for free

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 03-27-2013

$135 OBO for a turbo that would probably cost around 900-1000 used... I think my price is pretty fair.. Plus that whole OBO thing... I have a pretty decent low price I will take for it.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 04-04-2013

Pending sale

Really?! Did you bore or stroke your 2.3L?! Where'd the extra 200mL come from?!Tongue

They were 2.3 up until 1997. 98-01 got a stroker crank for a extra displacement and torque. rods, pistons, block, and head are the same

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - TheDon - 04-09-2013

sooo first attempt at great stuff as packing material has failed

pics?

rememmber, it expands around 4:1 So just a little will do it.

I would take the turbo, wrap it in a trash bag, and suck the air out with a shop vac, then tie it shut. Then, hang the turbo from your engine hoist so it's inside the box but not touching anything. Then go hog wild with the foam, and walk away.

After it has hardened, trim enough to close the box and you're set. Maybe half an hour of actual labor.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - larsalan - 04-10-2013

you wouldnt have to hang it up from a engine stand. Just put some small fome blocks in the box as risers to set the turbo on. I use that great stuff all the time I can hardly see how it is hard to use.

I think the foam didn't cure properly because I probably didn't shake the can hard enough.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - larsalan - 04-10-2013

another neat trick with that stuff is to mist the foam with a water sprayer right after you use it. Makes it have a skin right away.

RE: FS: Massive Garrett Turbo - Simpler=Better - 04-11-2013

Good to know. Since his 606 is on a stand I figured the engine hoist could use some work :p
