Clutch choices..GM 1.125 26 spline fits! - Duncansport - 05-21-2013 So after doing some measuring and fitting i found this GM clutch disc from a 2.2 S10. It is 9.175 wide, the 16v flywheel is 9.200 wide so the fit is well. Also i thought some people tried the GM clutch disc and found it to not fit, however my clutch alignment tool fit perfect in the 16v clutch disc so i went ahead and order a GM disc from SACH'S (at the tune of $34.99 vs $202.33 for the 16v). Tried it this morning and it fits perfect! So this opens up a lot of choices for clutch's that are strong and cheap for us. If i was to machine the flywheel flat i could fit any performance GM clutch kit provided it fits withing the bell housing. Just some thoughts.. Take a look... RE: Clutch choices..GM 1.125 26 spline fits! - SurfRodder - 05-21-2013 was it difficult to push on there(i.e. didn't slide right on w/minimal effort)? when I did my 4spd swap on the w123, I used the S-10 clutch alignment tool and some "massaging" of the tool was necessary to get it to smoothly engage the splines in the 300GD clutch. I assumed it was due to slight differences between SAE and Metric, but I guess it could have been shoddy manufacturing...the thing was likely made in China. The thing is though that you can get a bunch of performance clutch kits with this set up in summit racing for short money. You would just need to machine the flywheel step off and get the pressure plate centered and pinned, then ensure the height of the pressure plate is close to the OE. RE: Clutch choices..GM 1.125 26 spline fits! - raysorenson - 05-21-2013 Cool. FWIW, I used a cheaper Mercedes 9" disc than the 16v unit on my 16v FW. I suspect the only difference is the stiffness of the springs. Do you have a GM pressure plate too? I'd be interested in knowing it's weight and height. If I'm going to consider taking mass off of the already light 16v FW, I'd feel better about it if the GM PP was heavier. Nice, always good to have options. I may grab a spare 190e flywheel to experiment with this... A GM PP wouldn't fit as M-B uses a step and lip flywheel with a inset pressure plate disc. Also no alignment pins on the M-B PP. Im going to try this set up and see if it holds with he stock 16v PP, if not i'll machine off the step and flange on the 16v flywheel and have a standard GM PP mounted (machine the alignment holes and bolts) RE: Clutch choices..GM 1.125 26 spline fits! - SurfRodder - 06-20-2013 (05-21-2013, 07:46 AM)Duncansport So after doing some measuring and fitting i found this GM clutch disc from a 2.2 S10. I have a decent looking clutch to use for the next few months until I purchase a PP/Clutch setup from Clutchnet, but I used this info last night to pick up a clutch alignment tool from autozone last night (after carquest and oreillys coulndt get one to me before tomorrow) Anyway, thanks again! I'm still on the fence of machining my flywheel flat to recieve a big 10.5 GM clutch of just have clutchnet rear spring my pressure plate and make me a kevler disc.. RE: Clutch choices..GM 1.125 26 spline fits! - SurfRodder - 06-20-2013 (06-20-2013, 02:13 PM)Duncansport just have clutchnet rear spring my pressure plate and make me a kevler disc.. Yeah, that's the setup I looking at. Prolly pull the trigger on the PP first and have it balanced to my 300e flywheel and eventually get the clutch... well see. I am going to offer up another swap kit in the coming weeks to help fund my clutch and PP so maybe ill gt both at once. |
