Big brake kit - HaavardPYA - 06-11-2013 Anyone know if there are any other budget big brakes than the R129 334mm brembo kit that fits the w124? Know some s-class brakes fit, but the iron callippers are so heavy. Dont want to att lots of unsprung weight. Any experience on StopTech? Pricey.. Stoptech makes a good brake... used those on another platform before...I really like the fact that they provide paper cutouts that you can print from home and mock up on your car and fit inside wour wheels to see if their brakes will fit. definitely pretty pricey tho... RE: Big brake kit - HaavardPYA - 06-12-2013 Yes, i think stoptech is good. But can you get tuv papers etc on them? RE: Big brake kit - HaavardPYA - 07-13-2013 Anyone? RE: Big brake kit - winmutt - 07-19-2013 No but a friend in UAE said that post w123 all front calipers will mount on any benz. I've put this to the test with a variety of brakes. You can pick up 6pots on ebay for ~$1000 but to me this is pricey and I stick with 4pots. I spent a good 2 hours a few weeks back fitting 140 brakes on a 124 at the junkyard. The distance between the mount hole to the spidle are the same but the bore was different, the offset was going to require washers and that was enough to have me stick to the 95 e320 brakes for now. That's what I vaguely remembered when looking for donors at the part yard during my 124 brake upgrade...luckily they had a couple 400E's there when I made that happen. I remember using my calibrated eyeball that the rotor 'hat' was significantly different setup on the 140. RE: Big brake kit - john - 12-29-2013 (06-12-2013, 02:07 PM)HaavardPYA Yes, i think stoptech is good. But can you get tuv papers etc on them? Do you really need tuv approval on everything in Norway? The SS lines I just installed were stoptech and had TUV certs. RE: Big brake kit - HaavardPYA - 01-02-2014 Police go bananas just if you have wrong tires, so its nice to have your dailydriver street legal RE: Big brake kit - raysorenson - 01-02-2014 Making the aftermarket brake thing worse for older Merc's, all the M.B. specific BBK's only fit under huge diameter wheels. Is there a single one that will fit a 17" wheel? RE: Big brake kit - hooblah - 07-31-2014 Do 334's with 4 pots not fit under 17's? RE: Big brake kit - winmutt - 07-26-2016 (07-31-2014, 05:45 AM)hooblah Do 334's with 4 pots not fit under 17's? I'm about to find out. I got the 334/300mm calipers today off the R129 99-01 SL500/600. They are monsters! RE: Big brake kit - Hario' - 08-01-2016 (07-26-2016, 10:54 PM)winmutt(07-31-2014, 05:45 AM)hooblah Do 334's with 4 pots not fit under 17's? I can tell you 345mm rotors & W220 4-pots fit under 17's.. RE: Big brake kit - Duncansport - 08-01-2016 I just did the 334s with 17's with no issues Need a master cylinder though as the pedal travel is a bit to much i think RE: Big brake kit - winmutt - 08-03-2016 RE: Big brake kit - Gasoil - 08-22-2021 Hi, these holiday month I´m swap my brakes in my W124 300TD, years ago fitted the front 4 pot 295mm ones from 24V models, plug and play, easy.Removed the dust shield. Now I fitted C32 AMG rotors, 345mm front and 300mm rear, vented-drilled, front all drilled, rear Zimmerman . Front calipers Use the W215 CL600, inside part works OK with W124 knucle-shock, not interference as C30-C32 models, which have an "mountain" in the hose area. Fitted all braided lines, banjo in front calipers. The only custom made part is 4 spacers 8mm thick, fitted between caliper support ant this, to center the caliper with rotor (exact measure can be 9mm spacers, with 8mm there is 1,5mm difference outer caliper-rotor and inner caliper-rotor clearance, but no problem). Fitting bolts must be 8mm longer at least, by the 8mm spacers. Braided custom made line, as 7cm longer than stock, straight banjo at caliper. Clearance between rotor and LCA is as 5-7mm, years ago I removed a bit material with the electric grinder. I used 8,5x17 ET32 OZ MAE with 13mm spacer with the old 4 W124 calipers , but with these 4 pot calipers need a very thick wheel spacer and wheel goes very out of fenders. Then I fit the W203 Sport Edition wheels, Hoedus 8,5x17 ET34, the rear ones, fitted front, no spacers needed, as 5mm clearance in the closest point caliper-wheel spokes. Rear the C32 brakes-calipers fit plug and play, no spacers between caliper and knucle. As C32 caliper is 7mm thicker than the stock ones the 2 fitting bolts needs be 7mm longer, as 28mm total lenght. Cut a bit that dust shield cover, C32 caliper is taller. Braided line stock lenght. Made in the front and rear C32 rotors the 2 holes for location rotor (12mm ), and one location hole at rear rotors (8mm). It is a very easy swap, now the brake pedal is spongy, next days fit a W124 V8 420 master cylinder, 25,4mm front piston diameter, stock is 23,8mm, hope with this pedal goes harder. Regards. |
