Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 07-01-2009 Hi all i was thinking about upgrading my turbo on my 87 190d 2.5 turbo , what size do i have now? and what size would be a good upgrade, Thanks. RE: Turbo upgrade - ForcedInduction - 07-02-2009 You have a TB251 (T25). A T3 will be an upgrade but it won't fit the T25 flange. A lot of the VNT turbos VW uses in europe have a T25 flange. RE: Turbo upgrade - Motorhead - 07-02-2009 Does anyone have the Map to the OM617 Air Research turbo? RE: Turbo upgrade - GREASY_BEAST - 07-02-2009 (07-02-2009, 10:34 AM)Motorhead Does anyone have the Map to the OM617 Air Research turbo? The OM617 AirResearch turbo is a Garrett T3-45. It's map is available on the not2fast turbo calculator. Forced Induction has a link to a page that has all the OM617 specs plugged in to that calculator. RE: Turbo upgrade - Motorhead - 07-02-2009 (07-02-2009, 12:27 PM)GREASY_BEASTCool, I will plug the #'s in.(07-02-2009, 10:34 AM)Motorhead Does anyone have the Map to the OM617 Air Research turbo? RE: Turbo upgrade - Motorhead - 07-02-2009 We have alot more air here, dirty but more. I have to look around but do have a Holset out of a '04 Dodge, it would be cool at speed but a dog frome the start in my CD. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 07-02-2009 What is a VNT turbo. RE: Turbo upgrade - 85-300Dt - 07-03-2009 Variable Nozzle Turbine RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 07-03-2009 if I were to get a new T-25 flange turbo, would that decrease spool time? what are the benefits of a new turbo over the stock on the OM602.961? would it yield more power too even though my Bosch pump really cant put out much more than it is now...? RE: Turbo upgrade - ForcedInduction - 07-04-2009 This HX25 would be a good upgrade, about equivalent of a T3 but it will flow more air. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120441976374 RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 07-04-2009 Would a HX25 spool faster mine is pretty slow, i want something that will spool faster and give more power. RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 07-04-2009 aside from bolting up a new turbo, how does one deal with oil and or coolant lines? i take it the HX25 spools quicker than the stock turbo, but can the Injection Pumps boost compensator make use of a few extra PSI? RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 10-17-2009 So the HX25 seems like a good one to get! where should i look and whats a good price to pay for one? RE: Turbo upgrade - meareweird - 10-20-2009 I have the same car(190D turbodiesel) and was wondering some of these same questions. Does anyone have the stock turbos flow map? RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 10-22-2009 Did your car come stock with a 5 speed or did you change it? the reason i want to know is im thinking about doing a 5speed converson . RE: Turbo upgrade - meareweird - 10-27-2009 i did the swap myself RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 10-29-2009 (10-27-2009, 11:47 PM)meareweird i did the swap myself happen to take any pics? RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 10-29-2009 Ya i was wondering the same thing? it would be nice to see some pics. RE: Turbo upgrade - meareweird - 10-29-2009 no i didnt sorry i really should have said i am doing the swap myself i will be putting it in in the next few days though and then inspection maybe ill take some pics of what i have done so far RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 10-30-2009 anything would help I have a 5-speed and all the parts sitting in my shop, and that dim witted 4-speed auto still crippling the 602. RE: Turbo upgrade - Deni - 11-01-2009 (10-30-2009, 11:02 PM)2.5-10 anything would help Since I have a 190d with the om602 turbo and already have a 5sp, can we keep on the topic and discuss the best (preferably bolt on) turbo . Living in Europe as well RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 11-01-2009 you and your factory manual transmission :p I am indeed curious about the best turbo for the job. seems like a stock late 90s DSM turbocharger should be a pretty good bet. T25 flange and they are properly cheap. RE: Turbo upgrade - Deni - 11-03-2009 (11-01-2009, 04:57 PM)2.5-10 you and your factory manual transmission :p Off - topic, people over here pay to convert their manuals to automatics RE: Turbo upgrade - willbhere4u - 11-03-2009 great send over your 5spds and we will send over some auto's!!! lol RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 11-03-2009 Post some pics of your car Deni. RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 11-03-2009 automatics suck, just sayin' RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 11-05-2009 Well it looks like my trans is on its way out! no choice but to put my 5 speed in just need to find one. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 11-20-2009 Is the HX 25 turbo a direct fit for my car? RE: Turbo upgrade - awsrock - 11-20-2009 (11-20-2009, 07:15 PM)Jtn190D Is the HX 25 turbo a direct fit for my car? I believe that most of the the HX/HY25s are T3 flanged..although I have heard that sometimes they can be t25. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HOLSET-HY25w-T3-T4-hx35-hx40-cummins-HY35-N257_W0QQitemZ280425288700QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item414aa653fc Here's an HY25w. FI said this seller can be bad though; make sure you get some good pictures of the compressor wheel and turbine if you decide to get this one. The damaged blades might make it scrap depending on the severity. RE: Turbo upgrade - ForcedInduction - 11-20-2009 That one is scrap unless it gets a new compressor. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 11-21-2009 How does something like that happin to a compressor? RE: Turbo upgrade - ForcedInduction - 11-21-2009 Dirt ingestion from a bad air filter or intake tubing seals. RE: Turbo upgrade - Kiwibacon - 11-21-2009 IMO the holsets are best suited to those wanting high pressure ratios. If you want 20+ psi boost then they're a good place to be shopping. If you don't want 20+ psi boost, there are many garretts which will bolt on to a T25 flange and cover the air flow requirements. The whole bottom half of the Garrett GT range has T2/T25/T28 flanges, they are also far more compact than your average holset. However, those looking for a turbo upgrade, should first ask themselves what they're looking for. Often their current turbo can just have it's wastegate tweaked for more boost or exhaust housing changed for bigger/smaller for more top end power or more low end torque. RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 11-22-2009 mid 90's DSM turbos are cheap, even ones in perfect shape. they are also T25. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 11-23-2009 Thanks guys, im looking for more low end power my car does not really have much power intil about 2500rpm i was thinking a turbo upgrade would help maybe with low end power not sure maybe i should mess around with IP? any good way to increase power with out it costing major money? if i do a five speed conversion i would like lower end power becouse what i read its geared a lot different. any thoughts? RE: Turbo upgrade - 2.5-10 - 11-23-2009 with a newer turbo, you can get it to spool quicker, but the biggest thing I have done to reduce spool time in my 190D turbo is swap out the airbox for a cone, and make the exhaust as free flowing as possible. I get boost at about 1,600rpm now.. you will never get boost at 1,000rpm with these engines, its just not how they are. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jetmugg - 12-01-2009 Another 190D 2.5Turbo / 5 speed owner here. Interesting thread, and I've been wondering about this for a while also - how to get some more "low end" power. I'm running a 3.07 rearend and a 5-speed from an '84 190D 2.2 (lower ratios than the "gasser" transmissions). The higher rpms (2500 and up) power is good, but I could definitely use some more punch around town and at lower rpms. SteveM. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 12-01-2009 Did you do a 5 speed conversion on your car? if you did post some pics of it. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jetmugg - 12-02-2009 (12-01-2009, 07:04 PM)Jtn190D Did you do a 5 speed conversion on your car? if you did post some pics of it. I've done 2 190D 2.5 Turbo 5-speed swaps so far. I didn't take any pics of the actual swaps in progress, but I have some pics of the finished cars. My current car actually started life as a '93 190E 2.6, into which I swapped the 2.5 Turbo engine, 5-speed tranny, 3.07 rearend, and the right front fender from a 2.5Turbo. So I've got the updated body trim and cladding of the '93, with the 2.5 turbo and 5-speed manual trans. I like this car very much - but would enjoy it even more with some additional low-end power. SteveM. Let's see if I can figure out how to post this pic. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 12-07-2009 Hi all, i just found a 84 190e with a five speed, will this transmission fit? RE: Turbo upgrade - Jetmugg - 12-07-2009 (12-07-2009, 07:55 AM)Jtn190D Hi all, i just found a 84 190e with a five speed, will this transmission fit? Yes. Where are you located? SteveM - Festus, MO - USA RE: Turbo upgrade - George3soccer - 12-07-2009 Yea any manual tranny from a w201 will fit. Of course different gears but will fit. RE: Turbo upgrade - Jtn190D - 12-07-2009 Near albany NY. RE: Turbo upgrade - winmutt - 12-07-2009 JetMugg, nice looking car even if it did start off as a gasser RE: Turbo upgrade - Jetmugg - 12-08-2009 (12-07-2009, 01:50 PM)winmutt JetMugg, nice looking car even if it did start off as a gasser Thanks Winmutt. It's been coming along, but still needs some of the details worked out. I painted it myself last spring, but it has a large amount of orange peel. I've just about made up my mind to do a complete re-paint. |
