W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - gaiex - 07-22-2013 Hello guys, I've been a reader of your forum for some years now, and passed me the need of a supertubo diesel mercedes, and in fact was the main reason that I bought the 1975 w115 240d 3.0! I first started to look for a W123 to put an OM606 motor in, but than I realize that spend money on an old car, it's better to spend on one that at least is a classic, and nothing more than an old /8 I have the car for one year now, but works only started on November 2012 and add to do a lot of body work because of the rust, and work was ON and OFF for several months till now that is almost ready for paint! Some time ago I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAOUoowU-vk and I had to test an OM606 + 722.6 on it Summarizing, the engine and gear box fits, but need to do some engine mounts (or find some OEM that fit) and some transmission tunnel stretching. At this phase only one front chassis strut was cut to get the engine as far to the firewall as needed, but also some gearbox mount and transmission shaft will be needed to fabricate for now. Any idea what to use for engine mounts? Here are some pictures: http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/gaiex/library/ RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - HaavardPYA - 07-23-2013 Amazing project! Really like the /8 body what rear end are you using? RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - gaiex - 07-23-2013 (07-23-2013, 04:32 PM)HaavardPYA Amazing project! Really like the /8 body what rear end are you using? I'm studing the parts to install, maybe w210 and w124 parts, but a bit soon for now since I have to install all the stock parts after paint, to get the car to road inspection and classic certification. After that is OM606 time! RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - sassparilla_kid - 07-23-2013 Sounds like an awesome project!! RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - HaavardPYA - 07-24-2013 If your going to build all custom i would recomend bmw parts. E32 7series, e34 m5 or e28 535 diff. Strong as hell if you reinforce the diffmounting. RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - gaiex - 11-22-2014 Any info about this car? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgJNpPRyapo and this one is also interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml_AZB_-Cw8 RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - Tito - 11-23-2014 Well this is coincidence... I bought a w114 yesterday to mate with the om606 I'm building. So, care to share some info if you have any? Edit: just looking through your gallery, and it seems the oilsump is clearing the crossbar right? And what did you use as engine mounts? RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - gaiex - 11-24-2014 (11-23-2014, 11:51 AM)Tito Well this is coincidence... I bought a w114 yesterday to mate with the om606 I'm building. Hi, I had taken the pictures for more than an year, but I had the stock (supposed to be) engine mounts from the W210 OM606 to check the alignment with an crane lifting the engine, but I did not installed the engine in place, was just to test the fitment. I have the OM617 installed to conclude the restoration and certificate the car as a classic, only after that I will go with the OM606 installation, and that's why I'm still looking for information on the installation. For now I know the following that it's needed: - needs radiator electric fans - relocate battery, maybe in the trunk - remove the cross arm struts bar - need to fabricate engine mounts ?? - transmission tunnel need to bee widened ?? - transmission not strong enough ?? PS: I have an W210 320cdi 722.6 auto gear box to couple with the engine and I already widened a bit the transmission tunnel. RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - Tito - 11-25-2014 Ok. Doesn't neem like big problems to me. Just curious about the engine mounts. I'll be using the 717.413 gearbox. It's a little shorter than the automatic gearbox. Hope I don't need to widen the tunnel... RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - Tito - 11-27-2014 Took out the tape measure and did some measuring.... The intercooler is going to be a huuuge problem Maybe a W/A intercooler..... RE: W115 240d 3.0 + OM606 - gaiex - 11-27-2014 (11-27-2014, 02:35 PM)Tito Took out the tape measure and did some measuring.... The intercooler is going to be a huuuge problem It have some space behind the hood grill but maybe not to big but I've saw some W123 with some IC there and the space is almost the same as in the W115! |
