Om617 to toyota wiring - MERCEDES-BENZ - 08-18-2013

I am currently in the process of swapping a om617 into my 1990 toyota pickup that once had the 3.0 V6 and i cant find a wiring diagram online of what i need to keep from the original harness and what i can and cant rob power from for the diesel. Is there such a diagram or am i just being too needy? any help is apreciated

All you need is to connect the starter and glow relay. The harness is pretty much all glowplug wires and a temperature wire. The relay has 4 pins for controlling it that you need to figure out, see here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/267610-glow-plug-relay-upgrade.html

If you're running the merc auto transmission you will need the VCV (plastic guy on top of the injection pump with vac connectoins)

For shutoff you can rework a gasser EGR solenoid, or any vacuum switch to supply vacuum to the metal pod on the back of the injection pump. Or run a tube into the cabin and hook it ot a ryringe or suck on it

If you can, I recommend leaving the toyota ECU in place even though the engine is gone. I ran into quite an irritating wiring situation by removing my ECU, which directly controlled a lot of key on functions as related to to key position.

For example, the fuel pump relay relied on the information being ported through the ECU to actually shut off, along with a dozen other power sources, so wiring would switch from 12v with the key on, to 12v constant once the engine was running, and say 12v constant even after the key was removed.

Make sure you have a real oil pressure gauge (not a dummy light). Hot idle pressure is 15-30 psi, running can hit over 100psi

if you're after performance boost and EGT are necessities

here is a thread that shows some diagrams on how to do the vacuum shutoff. Lots of ways to do it, I had some trouble getting mine reliable as well, Simpler=Better loves his syringe though. Big Grin You might have to do this first, because id love to see it rigged up and working
