I'll be using a gun cup for painting just wondering what paint is better for applying right on rust. I will take as much rust off as possible of course. I was thinking acrylic enamel or a rustoleum product but I have not seen long term results of any product.

I use por 15 chassis black, it doesnt chip, scratch, or flake. But on the other hand do not breathe its fumes or get any on you, it doesn't come off, only with time

If you're not removing the rust completely you need something that will kill the rust chemically or it will just come back and flake your top coat. Rustoleum 769 might be ok for this but I have never used it. The likes of krust would be good but that would be a long expensive job. There are other chemical rust killers that are cheap and easy to apply, I think stateside Naval Jelly is a common one or if you can find it on its own phosphoric acid is the same thing. This is what you paint on rust and it goes black and hard, turns iron oxide into iron phosphate. Top coat wise it depends on the finish you're after. If you want a tough don't care what it looks like finish then body Schutz is very hard to beat on both price and performance. If you want it to look good then Por 15 is a good choice.

Eastwood carries por 15 and acid dip/naval jelly, all of which I've used. They also have a LOT of very cool products under their own brand name, most of which I've tried, still use and recommend.

I am not concerned of the finish look of course this is the exterior floor and chassis components.
I have a few minor surface patches and rear chassis pieces just starting to show.
I just read about a concrete rust stain remover of phosphoric acid which is readily available.
This looks like a 3 or 4 stage approach not sure but there is options i was not sure of.
it would be great to be ahead of the salt and barnickels taking control of the precious precious.
A good rubber topcoat would be a great defender of salt for sure.

Although chemicals are effective I am going to look for a miniature soda blasting machine and if i cant find one I'll finish off with a rubber coating after a treatment.

the rustoleum 769 has some VOC's which makes it illegal for the layperson to buy in the north.
i'm sure its available to some people whom may have business connections.
this was my first choice after a wire brush and the por 15 i cant find also.

I spoke to soon the concrete rust stain remover with phosphoric acik is pulled from all shelves here as is all other products containing the phosphoric acik

POR15 seems to be good, ive used it myself and its holding up ok. Just wear gloves when using it!

Just ordered my first can of POR 15. Started looking at videos on how to use it. Are all you rusty guys...JB3 winking at you..using those marine dip and surface prep chemicals before the POR 15?

I just wire wheel everything and spray it down with brake clean or wipe with alcohol.
Wear gloves.
If not, you aren't going to hear the end of it from the wife, POR takes weeks to flake off your skin

My hands are all cracked, even when oil crud gets in those cracks its in there for a week. :-)
You using a VOC mask? Im probably gonna get an ok make with different cartridges. Body work and chemicals i should start taking care of these lungs.

I found an industrial paint supplier and picked up a gal each of epoxy primer and urethane.
I did a fast wire brush where I could and sprayed on 1 coat each.
The epoxy 3 part , hardener , thinner
