Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - winmutt - 08-26-2013 I've found out that the PO of my transmission stuck a 80mm flexdisk on a smaller yoke. Minimally I'd like to get an 80mm yoke on there, ideally I'd like to swap the 110m? yoke from a 87 300d on there. Is the output shaft the same across all these trans? Can I pull the yoke with trans in car (at the junkyard?). RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - winmutt - 08-26-2013 I dont get it. I put an 80mm on there and it was too big. The yoke ears on the trans are bent back, maybe thats the only problem. So confusing... RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - aaa - 08-26-2013 I don't think the 110mm will fit on a manual trans, the place where the rear mount bolts on gets in the way. On the w202 the tailhousing and rear mount are different, allowing for a larger yoke size. RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - SurfRodder - 09-03-2013 ^^this, I had to hack the hell outta my case to make the 110mm fit. I'll post pics later when I'm on the big machine. RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - Greazzer - 09-03-2013 Howdy, I got one. I will post some pictures and take some measurements this evening. RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - winmutt - 09-03-2013 (09-03-2013, 06:22 AM)Greazzer Howdy, You have an 80mm yoke? RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - Greazzer - 09-03-2013 I will take some pictures and measure it. Maybe I'm wrong. I will post pictures of the mic's results also. RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - winmutt - 09-03-2013 Whats it off of or where is it from? Any chance it has the flex disk on it (easiest way to measure). RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - Greazzer - 09-03-2013 Rolf, I am thinking I got a different / wrong part. Here are 2 pictures. It's 80mm on center of each hole on each dogear. If its the wrong part, my bad. RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - SurfRodder - 09-03-2013 (09-03-2013, 03:15 PM)Greazzer It's 80mm on center of each hole on each dogear. The usual measurement is from center of one bolt hole to the center of the opposite side (i.e. 180* apart...when all six fasteners are present, as in looking at the flexdisc which is why Rolf suggested that) I usually take a flexdisc and tighten two bolts down (with washers/spacers as necessary...which I didn't do in the first pic below so my reading is off my 1mm) and then turn the bolt heads so the outside "flats" are parallel to each other. Then when you measure the distance from the outside flat of each bolt head to the outside flat of the opposite one and subtract the size of the (one) bolt head from the total measurement, you have the center to center hole distance. So in the above example I take 128mm (or 129 because I know what its supposed to be when torqued down properly) and subtract 19mm from that to get 109mm (or the actual value of 110mm when everything is tight). Now you CAN use the measurements that you took and use some slightly fancy math figure out the actual Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD). But Im a little too toasty to attempt that right now (13 hours days are taking their toll on me). Knowing that the measurements you have are taken 120* apart means that you basically measured one side of a triangle with 80mm sides. Then you gotta determine the smallest circle that triangle will fit into to translate that into BCD. Anyway, much easier to just measure the flex disc. nice caliper by the way... RE: Tail yoke interchangeable across all the transmissions? - Greazzer - 09-04-2013 Let me track down a flex disk. I am thinking my math was never up to par ... LOL ... I am thinking is then probably the wrong part ... my bad. |
