Hi Im looking at a 83 240d can this engine take a turbo, and any big things to look for engine wise before buying it.

If you want a turbo, buy an 82-85 300D/CD/TD/78-85 300SD. Right off the bat you'll get more power than a 240D would ever have.

I put a turbo on my 240D and it goes great, but it was a lot of work. If you don't have the car already, get yourself a 300 turbo and be happy.
My 240D is faster then my 300 but I have a 3.69 diff in the 240D with a 4 speed and a 2.88 in the 300D with a auto. If I had a 3.07 and 4 speed I have no doubt the 300D would be fast and smoother.
