1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - willbhere4u - 07-07-2009 I bought this 1958 Mercedes 219 6cyl with 4spd on the column. It has duel carbs and a Wabasto sliding sun roof. I traded a Yamaha three wheeler that I got for free for it! needs a lot of work if I cant fix the 6 cyl eng its getting a 617 turbo and auto swapped in there! Tell me what you think??? some darn kids smashed out the windshied and all of the drivers side windows! and then it sat uncovered for 4 years at a storage yard. I have collected all of the glass except both front vent windows! i need a front and back window window seal RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - winmutt - 07-08-2009 Pretty dang cool for a gasser. RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - Motorhead - 07-08-2009 Man is that one cool car, maybe build a 4 cyl. diesel and convert it to turbo. I have stopped my buying for now so I will be able to finish all my iron's in the fire, I have 3 big projects currently but maybe in a year or two I could start looking for a cool old Merc. I think old gassers are cool, if I did a gas engine I would leave the duel carbs on and use them as throttle bodies with the injectors stuck into the intake out of site. RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - willbhere4u - 07-08-2009 I haven't made up my mind on what to do with it yet but it will be cool any ways I put a set of 14in rims of a 1980 280e on it with hub caps that make it look a lot nicer RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - Motorhead - 07-09-2009 That car has some great lines! RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - kamel - 07-18-2009 Nice find, no matter what you do, black it out. RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - willbhere4u - 07-19-2009 thanks yea I'm really excited to get it fixed up me and my dad have a little body work and paint experience so we are going to fix it up and paint it! I want to customize the interior and fix the sun roof and see if the old gasser runs if not its getting a 617 w auto and some modern gauges that look vintage some day! RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - xswingkidx - 07-20-2010 This might be frowned upon but I think it would be sweet to see a Honda S2000 power train in that, depending on your fab skills. Great looking car! RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - willbhere4u - 08-03-2010 If I put any engine in it that was not Mercedes it would be a BMW 745i turbo 6 cylinder my last one made 500hp with a 5spd! although in the past I almost put a Suzuki GSXR 1000 in an mg midget until I lost my job and needed some cash RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - garage - 09-14-2010 So whats going on with this willbe? RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - willbhere4u - 09-15-2010 It's funny you bring this up! At my local upullandpay yard this weekend I found a 1954 ponton and grabed a bunch of parts I now have all of the glass I needed and extra trim a nearly perfect dash wood trim! and then.... The next day I went to the other pull and pay yard and found a 1960 ponton and grabed a bunch more parts including a perfect grill and clausane badge hidden in the locked trunk for $19! head light trim ring and all of the bakelight around the inside of the windows and then... On ebay I bought a nearly new looking speedometer cluster and clock and windshiel gasket!!! RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - garage - 09-15-2010 Good deal then! I would love one of these. Satin paint, airbags, shaved, chopped, and a big fat om606 in the engine bay mated to a 4speed RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - JB3 - 09-15-2010 that original color is really nice, Id try and keep that. Just looking at that first pic on the trailer, you don't even notice its rolled off its tires and is all busted up. Going to be amazing once its up and running RE: 1958 mercedes 219 6cyl - willbhere4u - 09-15-2010 I've got some 14 in wheels and hubcaps off a 240d on it right now! The original 13 inch wheels used inter tubes but it looks a lot better with the 14" wheels on it anyways so I will probably not mess with originals! I"ll take some better pics of it this weekend! |
