comcast blah - lgreeley83 - 09-29-2013

They kept insisting I get this new modem "your old one is not capable of the super awesome ridiculous great speeds...." OK whatever send it.

I can't configure it. Default gateway doesn't work. WiFi works than doesn't. Http://10.0.0.1 no good. Tried too many others. Bridge mode and I'm OK. But the damn people in India.

Arri's tg 862 or something *angry face*

Comcast is the devil. Calm down and call me tonight I'll get you straight. Or purplecomputer he knows a trick or two.

RE: comcast blah - larsalan - 09-30-2013

lolz, you say 10.0.0.1 is not the gateway.
Maybe you need to look at some command line to find what the gateway really is.

windows command prompt or powershell
$ > ipconfig

am I right then maybe you see that your puter has an ip and what the ip of the gate is.
Wink

RE: comcast blah - lgreeley83 - 09-30-2013

I did run the ipconfig command but that gateway gives me nothing too. I mentioned the 10.0.0.1 just because their instructions said so.

My wife likes it in bridge mode anyhow. She feels big brother can't track us as well.

so this is wifi?

Usually, You have an internal class C network ex 192.168.X.X

On your wireless settings your default gateway should point to the router usually 192.168.1.1

from there your router then has DHCP which obtains the info from the ISP.

You might have to log into your router and renew the DHCP to obtain an new IP address from your ISP. Especially if you received a new modem. IP address might not be the same and the timeout has not occurred from the router to look for a new IP.

so example on your computer configuring your IP

192.168.1.x
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

you usually don't want to set these though if this is a laptop because if you go to any other hotspot the settings might not match and you will have connectivity issues.

if you are not behind a router best to leave all settings in the TCP/IP window to obtain automatically.(DHCP)

it also depends on what type of subnet you are on, usually its a /24

but If your not behind a router it could be anything depending on what the external IP address your ISP has given you
