weird noise after head gasket swap - stripy - 10-08-2013 hi. iv'e turbo converted a 1995 e300td 24v. the head gasket didn't take more than 0,5bar pressure. so i swaped the head gasket and grinded the valves. when i started the engine it made a weird tikking sound. just like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8JJmGZdMlQ anny one have an idea what it can be? RE: weird noise after head gasket swap - willbhere4u - 10-08-2013 If that engine has hydraulic lifters they will take a while to pump up. RE: weird noise after head gasket swap - stripy - 10-08-2013 okay. big relief. were affraid the camshafts were thrash. but im gonna take of the cam cover and take a quick look. how long is a while? 5km-50km? or very varying? thanks! RE: weird noise after head gasket swap - willbhere4u - 10-09-2013 On the Miata race engine I use to rebuild 10-20 minuets of running before they would pump up RE: weird noise after head gasket swap - winmutt - 10-09-2013 You are supposed to submerge them in oil and compress them a few times before installing. We did that but if the engine sat for any time after the rebuild they would go flat again RE: weird noise after head gasket swap - stripy - 10-14-2013 talked with mercedes. they said the same thing. have been a problem that they dont want to fill up themself, or take a long time. |
