weird noise after head gasket swap - stripy - 10-08-2013

hi.

iv'e turbo converted a 1995 e300td 24v.
the head gasket didn't take more than 0,5bar pressure.
so i swaped the head gasket and grinded the valves.
when i started the engine it made a weird tikking sound.
just like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8JJmGZdMlQ

If that engine has hydraulic lifters they will take a while to pump up.

okay.
big relief. were affraid the camshafts were thrash. but im gonna take of the cam cover and take a quick look.
how long is a while? 5km-50km?
or very varying?

On the Miata race engine I use to rebuild 10-20 minuets of running before they would pump up

You are supposed to submerge them in oil and compress them a few times before installing.

We did that but if the engine sat for any time after the rebuild they would go flat againBig Grin
