240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - jenyus - 12-05-2013 so i got a replacement motor for my 83 240d, but i noticed that the replacement motor has the ac compressor on top passenger side, whereas, on mine, its on the bottom driver side. can i just move the bracketry from my bad motor to the new motor so i can keep the ac compressor in the same spot? id like to not have to refill the ac system and i dont have the hoses for the new motor. RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - willbhere4u - 12-05-2013 It should bolt right on i believe RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - jenyus - 02-23-2014 Just for future reference, in case anyone else stumbles upon this thread. If you're swapping an 83 motor for a 79, make sure you swap bell housing adapters as the alignment dowels are different (might just be an auto/manual difference there), ac compressor will not move over, no holes in block. 79 motor has a York compressor mounted on top. Throttle linkage is very different as well. 83 has an EGR and a throttle looking deal on the intake, 79 does not. Exhaust manifolds are interchangeable if you weld up the EGR hole. Different vacuum pumps. Other than that, mostly everything is the same. RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - Austincarnut - 02-23-2014 I have an early and late and a euro version w/out oil cooler if you need compressor bracket parts (02-23-2014, 04:34 AM)jenyus Just for future reference, in case anyone else stumbles upon this thread. RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - jenyus - 02-24-2014 Thanks! Fortunately the 79 had all the compressor brackets and the York compressor, so now assuming it works I should be fine using it. Just have to make some short ac adapter lines at work with te hydraulic line crimper. RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - Winston - 02-27-2014 I know, first post... Watchout on that '83 exhaust manifold EGR port. I've just recently swapped a late 70's 240D AC bracket onto a 617.951 ('85 300SD) in my G-wagen which I believe has the same exhaust manifold as your '83. The bracket will not clear the EGR port. But maybe you are planning on using the '79 exhaust manifold...couldn't tell in the post. RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - DirtDiesel - 02-27-2014 how hard is it to get a York compressor??? RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - Austincarnut - 02-27-2014 the york compressor is the crap one... don't you want to upgrade or does the engine not have the proper hole arrangement? RE: 240d engine swap, ac compressor on different side - jenyus - 03-06-2014 It looks like the ac compressor will clear the EGR port just fine. I'm using the 83 exhaust manifold transfer the 79 intake manifold. The EGR port is in the middle for me. If I use the York that is. I'd love to use my 83 compressor if possible. How would that work though? The holes on the motor aren't there to put t back in its original spot. Or is there a mystery bracket that I don't know about? I'd really like to use the York on my rock crawler for onboard air. Yorks are highly sought after for that. |
