What is causing this OM617 "knock" video attached - mike-81-240d - 03-11-2014 It's been months since I've seen my car (I'm off at a academy) but I seem to remember it sounding very similar to this 300TD Kent posted. Any idea on what went south internally? I put 11,000 miles on mine with no ill effects, so I chocked it up to IP timing. But if Kent is right here, I think it's time for me to start saving for a used engine. Anyone ever tear down a 617 with this sound? Should I stop driving mine when I finally go home? First thing I'll do is inspect the Camshaft, then run it on some purge. I'm not a Mercedes Source lover at all, but If I remember correctly my 300TD sounds similar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvRlRj06A0s BTW: Last year I installed Greazzer Monark 265 injectors, they have about 9k miles on them. Car has new injectors, turbo, paint, and transmission so I'm kind of frustrated. RE: What is causing this OM617 "knock" video attached - Tito - 03-11-2014 I would pull the injectors and test them. See if the spray pattern is okay and of the tip of the nozzle broke or something. Then I would look into cams and lifters. Good idea, I still have my stock bosch injectors too, maybe I'll try swapping them back in. I was heavily thinking it's something lifter related. Fucking blows, makes me consider a 302 ford smallblock. RE: What is causing this OM617 "knock" video attached - sassparilla_kid - 03-11-2014 I wonder if he tried adjusting the valves, mine knocks like that if a valve adjustment is overdue RE: What is causing this OM617 "knock" video attached - Austincarnut - 03-11-2014 when did the knock start? before or after the injectors? RE: What is causing this OM617 "knock" video attached - Austincarnut - 03-12-2014 I've seen everything from prechambers falling apart to pistons/rods knocking. I'd start w/ valve adjustment, compression/cyl leak down test, pull injectors and inspect prechambers... how does it run? I'm rebuilding an engine that had a noise like that, it ran perfect, suddenly began to overheat and I pulled the head, found severe damage to #3, block/head trash, kinda funny, so for this next go 'round I'm building ground up... I'd suggest trying to narrow it down to a cyl by playing w/ injector cut out and manipulating top of the injection pump to try to change the sound or isolate, etc or just drive the hell out of it and hope it clears up (03-11-2014, 10:55 PM)mike-81-240d I bought it with the knock. I'd start w/ valve adjustment, compression/cyl leak down test, pull injectors and inspect prechambers... It runs fantastic besides the noise. It's only at a specific rev range with my car too. I think I'll do the valves first, then check the IP timing with the drip method. |
