PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - Duncansport - 03-11-2014 In my quest of a better turbo solution ive consider many options (Holset He351CW and HE351VE with a controler, PTE 6266, BorgWarner EFR's, GT40 blah blah..) Now as i have been researching these it would seem that there exists MANY failures with the precision turbos these days. So my question is is anyone using these and have they had any issues? Im not entirely unhappy with my big H1C but i feel at this point there may be a better option based on how much money im sinking into this OM605. Thanks for your input RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - mike-81-240d - 03-11-2014 From what I've read over on DSM and Evo forums they all switched to Holset HX35's from Precision turbos. Something to do with the internal design of holset turbos allowing for noticeably quicker spooling versus their previous precision and Garrett turbos of the same size. Also there is a great write up from http://www.turbodirect.co.za/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=778&Itemid=21. I may settle on the HE351cw and ditch my Big H1C. I really like the BorgWarner EFR turbos as they have a lot to offer at a reasonable cost. Anything is better than the old h1c How high is your hp target? We have now an hx30 with 50/78mm compwheel RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - Duncansport - 03-12-2014 (03-12-2014, 09:07 AM)EDH_Performance(03-11-2014, 11:49 AM)Duncansport(03-11-2014, 11:20 AM)mike-81-240d From what I've read over on DSM and Evo forums they all switched to Holset HX35's from Precision turbos. Haha yeah it is a bit old tech... I would like to be in the 350-375 range on my 605. I wouldnt mind droping the $$ on the BorgWarner EFR 7064 because it offers some very advanced features. But if i can get 95% there with a HE351 then that would suite me as well. RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - Alcaid - 03-12-2014 350-375bhp would be 50-55lbs/min The Holset 78/54mm comp wheel flows 56lbs/min The Holset 78/56mm comp wheel flows 60lbs/min HY35 turbine is too small to flow this amount so HX35 turbine is needed. Build a proper twin scroll manifold with seperate external wastegates for each runner and be surprised 78/56mm comp wheel never came in the HX35/HE300 series turbos but it can be made. I have billet wheels in stock and custom compressor housings on the way to build these RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - erling66 - 03-13-2014 (03-12-2014, 01:57 PM)Alcaid Build a proper twin scroll manifold with seperate external wastegates for each runner and be surprisedTwin scroll on a 605? How are you gonna do that? or maybe you forgot that it is one of those strange 5 cyl engines RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - F.R.A.S - 03-13-2014 Split a tube and you're done. The Precision fails on surge, right? So buy one with the antisurge cover and you're good to go. I have only good experience with PTE, but there is always failure. And who knows about a million successes when you had one failure? RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - Duncansport - 03-13-2014 (03-12-2014, 01:57 PM)Alcaid 350-375bhp would be 50-55lbs/min The HX35 and my Big H1C use the same turbine wheel (same part number even), i also am using a .63 A.R housing. So going to an HX35 seems a bit of a lateral move. I do think the compressor of the H1C is of an old design, but it's not far off from the HX35's wheel. Also it does not have the MWE groove cut in it, but that would be easy to do on the lathe. I like everyone in the world would like the the shortest time to boost threshold.. My mind keeps wanting to think he compound route is the best answer, but i think it would turn into a huge mess that wasn't reliable. Therefore a modern turbo and good gas flow is the answer. F.R.A.S. is offered a nice piece at a very reasonable price, that may just be my route for a manifold. Short time to boost threshold and lots of HP, there is no way around either VNT/VGT or compounds... You need low turbine choke flow for low boost threshold but you need a higher turbine choke flow to make the peak HP numbers. A good flowing manifold will help but will never be as good as a properly set up compound, or even better, a sequential setup but that's a long way to go. RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - Gearbound - 03-14-2014 What about a hx35/40 hybrid? the he351 W/G will be my next move. Precision 6566 and others do great on the 3.0 supras. another turbo with bang for buck is the s300 Borg warners. Id like to see a s366 .91A/r on a 606 it maybe a bit laggy on 605. The borg warner S series likes to whistle. RE: PTE 6266 issue..anyone using one? - Alcaid - 03-15-2014 (03-14-2014, 08:57 PM)Gearbound What about a hx35/40 hybrid? the he351 W/G will be my next move.
