Testing the waters... - Duncansport - 03-13-2014

As my 605 build progresses i cant help but think my freshly rebuilt 717.430 will not hold up under up. When i bought it i got the shifter, flywheel, pedals, wood trim, drive shaft's, slave and master cylinder all from a 300E. I had clutchnet built a clutch set up for me and i lightened the flywheel a bit.
Im guessing that i could sell the whole set up for some decent $$.
I've sense been pondering the idea of a .6 swap. I can easily build one up for decent power, controls don't seem outrageously expensive and at the end of the day its probably going to handle more abuse.

Please any thoughts..or offers Big Grin

3 pedals.

Double de clutching is superior to having a stout auto that wont grenade.

I read on the internet that the .430 was one of the stouter 5 speeds.

Thats what i keep hearing as well. I just don't feel like blowing it to pieces. Still thinking.....

If you decide to keep it, a clutch that holds much more torque than necessary is a good way to kill it.

have a 717.430 myself, stock clutch, clutch is kind of new, and no oil on the disc,
have neither slip on clutch or broken the tranny yet, have about 200-220hp on the wheels compared to others with the same numbers...

stock turbo, om602 with 7.5mm 180cc pump and 1.6bar boost.

if you have a beefy turbo with late and aggresive spool you could probably break it, but mine has managed to survive this far.

Where did you find an om605? I've never seen them in the u.s. post pics of build

RE: Testing the waters... - Duncansport - 03-19-2014

I imported it from the uk

I have visions of an OM605 under the hood of my W201 as well. I think it would be a fantastic powerplant for these little cars.
