rod bender.. just the 3.5? - Insane190d - 03-13-2014 well I'm getting ready to go all out on my 1987 300 D with the Om 603. My question is I've always heard the 3.5 liter engines are the rod benders I would imagine that the 3 liter would have the same rods so can I put more boost and fuel to my 3 liter om 603 without any problems?? Or do they bend rods too? RE: rod bender.. just the 3.5? - Duncansport - 03-13-2014 (03-13-2014, 12:12 PM)Insane190d well I'm getting ready to go all out on my 1987 300 D with the Om 603. Or do they bend rods too? You will be fine, so long as the head is in good condition. Some 603's have head warpage and cracking issues, though most have been sorted out by now. The 3.5's have a different crank and rods. I'm gonna order a mynä pump tomorrow, finally getting all the parts togeather RE: rod bender.. just the 3.5? - OM616 - 03-13-2014 (03-13-2014, 02:06 PM)Insane190d Ok that's good to hear. RE: rod bender.. just the 3.5? - shadowmaker - 03-14-2014 606 has very strong rods, much stronger than 603. It all depends what you mean with "all out", but with high torque numbers you need beefier than those original rods. This is one of the first dyno runs of 603 with gt37v: Later we got rid of the turbine slip (up to 3800rpm on that dynoplot) and were able to get 500hp @6000rpm. I want to go as all out as possable in the safe zone. Im getting an 8mm pump but ill run it at low cc. What cc of fuel and amount of boost can the stock engine handle?? RE: rod bender.. just the 3.5? - shadowmaker - 03-14-2014 (03-14-2014, 05:15 AM)Insane190d Wow those are awsome numbers. I want to go as all out as possable in the safe zone. Im getting an 8mm pump but ill run it at low cc. What cc of fuel and amount of boost can the stock engine handle?? You have to remember these are bhp numbers, not whp, so deduct 15-20% for whp (automatic transmission + RWD so closer to 20% IMO). Air (=boost) in diesel combustion is what keeps temperatures low (unlike gasser combustion), so no limit there. Just make sure your IATs and EMP stay low. At the time when we were playing with OM603, there were no 8mm pumps, so this was with 7mm (max around 180cc). As injection time is shorter with 8mm, I'd think that you can safely use bigger injection quantities. Just make sure the air is there to cool things down (cam+valves, IC, manifolds, turbo, DP+exhaust,...) and restrict torque if you can (as we did with the OM603, but we had 3D electric fueling/boost control, so not that hard to do). RE: rod bender.. just the 3.5? - Insane190d - 03-14-2014 (03-14-2014, 08:49 AM)shadowmakersounds good. How should I keep tq down and tune it? Its a factory turbo motor so all is good. Mainley hx40 turbo intercooled 140cc fuel for now. |
