I was talking with a coworker and wondering who makes the rear ends for our Benzes? Like some Lincoln and Jaguars use a Dana 44.

It's merc as far as I can tell. The only branding I've ever seen has been the star.
Some manufacturers don't make their own diffs, some do. In the case of the Fords you mentioned, for whatever reason (NVH, longevity, you name it) they decided not to use their own 8.8 junk.

rats, I was hoping to have some good news. I was hoping that someone would say "well actually it's a Dana 40 axle housing" or something along those lines.
