om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 05-30-2014 Here is some pictures of an aluminum intake manifold we are building for a om605. You will see this pictures and pictures of it done. Inside is Top Secret No just kidding, it's nothing secret about it. But you have no business copying our work. The inside will have a deflector of some kind to divert the air more evenly to the cylinders to avoid one or two cylinders running cooler than the others and one or two running hotter... Sorry for the English regarding this. Have no clue what the correct terminology are so I'm just going with the flow here More pictures HERE RE: om605 intake manifold - hooblah - 06-02-2014 If I've understood this correctly, having a tapered inlet manifold for a turbo'd engine accounts for pressure loss at the cylinder furthest from the air inlet? I see tapered manifolds used on petrol engines, but why is it we don't see much of this on this forum or for diesels in general? RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 06-02-2014 On a petrol engine you have a throttle body before the plenum (intake manifold), when opening the throttle you have some fast flowing air coming in the intake and that air will take the most easy way in to the cylinders causing some cylinders to go lean and some rich. When going ITBs you already have the intake manifold filled with air and therefore more even air flow in to the cylinders. Diesels have no throttle so therefore there is no sudden rush of air (just like the ITB) How ever it is wise to divide the air for an even flow in the case of sudden rushes of air, both on diesels and ITB petrol engines. You can let go of the "throttle" (pedal) and step on it, if you're at the right revs you'll have full boost in the fraction of a second and that's when it's do or die for your engine / F (06-02-2014, 01:25 PM)hooblah If I've understood this correctly, having a tapered inlet manifold for a turbo'd engine accounts for pressure loss at the cylinder furthest from the air inlet? RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 06-03-2014 This is where the magic happens I hope I have some pictures of it all done tomorrow. RE: om605 intake manifold - Duncansport - 06-03-2014 (06-03-2014, 01:49 PM)F.R.A.S This is where the magic happens Nice work, get that guy a stool! RE: om605 intake manifold - raysorenson - 06-03-2014 LOL! That's exactly what I was thinking. Very nice work too! RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 06-03-2014 Hey guys, that's an hydraulic welding table so he can adjust the hight to fit He doesn't need a stool Thanks for the replies. Hope I can give you a finished picture in the white tomorrow. RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 06-04-2014 Yea, almost finished in this picture. Just a 45-degree angle in the end a little bit of tube is missing. Tomorrow it will be (sand) blasted and painted. Pictures of the finished result will appear in the owners project thread here on the forum That means that you will not see the finished result before him Now we just cross our fingers the damn thing will fit RE: om605 intake manifold - Mark_M - 06-06-2014 What diameter/hight is that? In some pictures it looks absolutely massive in others not so much. Nice job by the way. RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 06-07-2014 Hi, thanks. It's 4" or 100mm. (06-06-2014, 05:57 PM)Mark_M What diameter/hight is that? In some pictures it looks absolutely massive in others not so much. RE: om605 intake manifold - Mark_M - 06-07-2014 Its the not so massive then. Thanks for the info. RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 06-07-2014 I think it's just the right size for the car it's going in to. Had some problems with the paintshop on Thursday and on Friday we celebrated the Swedish National Day so that's one day off. The intake manifold is still in the white. I really hope the painter can come through on Monday so we can ship this out on Tuesday. I really looking forward to see the thing mounted in the car. Will be one fast little om605. (06-07-2014, 04:58 AM)Mark_M Its the not so massive then. Thanks for the info. RE: om605 intake manifold - Stamsaas - 06-29-2014 The finish Product looks great!! RE: om605 intake manifold - Hario' - 07-08-2014 Could you please link the project thread this is used on? I have almost tried to find it myself.. RE: om605 intake manifold - raysorenson - 07-08-2014 It's the corolla build. How do you almost try to find something? RE: om605 intake manifold - Stamsaas - 07-09-2014 Link here; http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thread-Norwegian-OM605-build-1980-Ke70-Corolla RE: om605 intake manifold - Simpler=Better - 07-09-2014 When I saw the welding photos all I could hear in my head was "VVVVVVRRRRRRRRRRR" RE: om605 intake manifold - F.R.A.S - 07-14-2014 Thanks guys and thanks Alex (Stamsaas). This came out real nice and it's a product I'm proud of Hope to see it in the car really soon RE: om605 intake manifold - Eric78 - 12-16-2016 (06-29-2014, 12:27 PM)Stamsaas The finish Product looks great!! How much for an intake mafold like that one? RE: om605 intake manifold - Evgeniy1987 - 12-17-2016 The manifold looks nice! Do you have proof from for example SolidWorks Flow Simulation that that thing will actually work ? It is difficult to simulate including the dynamic behavior of closing/opening valves, but it is already a big gain if it flows well statically.. |
