OM602.908 mechanic rotary pump - dekeinsan - 06-08-2014
Hello,
I have a G wagon from 1986.
The engine and transmission is from 1998 312 sprinter, 2.9 turbo direct injection.
The gearing in the Diff is 6.17. I drive either on 37 or 38 inch tyres.
The pump is now rotary mechanic (125cc),thanks to dieselmeken.
The turbo is gt 2359v from s320 cdi, Vgt controlled by pressure from the intake.
The nozzles have been replaced with higher capacity racing ones.
I have built custom exhaust manifold, 3 inch downpipe And exhaust.
And a small intercooler in front.
I am very pleased with the performance except for very rapidly climbing egt in high gears. When I floor the gas in 5th gearat 110km/h, boost rapidly goes up from 0.8 to 1.8 bar and egt from 400 celcius to over 800 celcius. I think it could go up to 1000 celcius if I continue giving full throttle.
It is ok, I can drive always checking the egt because, I do not want to play with the pump settings And decresase the fueling.
The pump is advanced 12 degrees, maybe to give more advance up to 15 could solve the problem.
I think maybe a bigger turbo could solve it but I want to keep the Vgt And the Low end for off road use.
Any idea or help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance and nice weekend without burned pistons.

Hmm perhaps the VGT is making too much backpressure, vanes are probably closed too much.Perhaps you should disconnect the VGT actuator to test what happens with the vanes open.It will be slow to spool but if you don't have high EGTs then there is your problem.Maybe the exhaust manifold isn't flowing well, do you have any pictures of it ?

I disconnected the air hose from the vnt actuator. The boost came not any later and exceeded 2 bar. I will adjust the actuator length so it will not be able to open vanes all the way and maybe bring the turbo to it's efficiency area.

A vnt turbo should not be controlled by just manifold pressure.

I agree but do not know any other way to control it mechanically.

Hello,
Do you mean I need to reduce the fueling of the pump?
I'm afaraid I'll lose the performance in first three gears.
What do you think?

Hello,
I decreased the fueling by one full turn. Slightly lost power but, egt dropped down and the performance is really nice. I can recommend this set up to G wagon owners, the boost comes earlier than stock And pushes up to 150km/h.
Thanks
