225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 06-26-2014 Has anyone tried a tire this wide on a w123? Will it clear okay? Putting 16's on my w123 and wanting a little wider tire, but don't know how wide I can go. RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - sassparilla_kid - 06-26-2014 I think mine are 225/55 R16 but I could be mistaken, I'll check later and try to get a picture from the front or back to give you an idea RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 06-26-2014 Okay cool, I was just going to go with the 225/50 because it keeps it kind of closer to the original tire height to keep my speedo correct. RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - sassparilla_kid - 06-26-2014 My bad, mine are 205/55r16, outside tire diameter is the same as stock and my speedo reads within a couple mph of what the gps on my phone says. So the size you're talking about would be wider, not sure how wide your wheels are. I don't understand tire sizes, why they can't just put wheel diameter, sidewall height, and width, I don't know. RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - DiseaselWeasel - 06-27-2014 They do 205 = total width, 55 = height of sidewall in percentage of width, R = radial tyre, 16 = wheel diameter. And then the index number for the load rating, p.e. 95 (=690kg), H = 210km/h / 130MPH. Truck tyres are often given the cross-section in inches. P.e. 37X12.5 (37" dia, 12.5" height). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_code#Examples Tyre code reading is the motorist's algebra 205/55 R16 215/55 R16 225/50 R16 ^these are the possible 16" tyre sizes for W123s. Depending on the wheel's width. A 225 on a 7" wheel might be a bit hard pressed, a 205 on a 8" wheel is bit stretched and the wheel touches the curb before the tyre These are 205/55s on a 8" rim: ^they had to be shot on the wheel with a tyre bomb! 205/55 seem to be pretty cheap & available, I'd go with them. 215/55 & 225/50s are expensive, as far as I observed. . RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - TKMad - 06-27-2014 I'm running 205 60r16 on the CLK rims. They will occasionally rub when turning sharp and hitting a bump, but for the most part they are good. RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 06-28-2014 I have 7" rims But I am not much of a fan of the "stretched" look, I like the tire to protect my rim, but just not as much as the stock 14" tires Pretty sure I am going to go with a 225/50R16 in General G-max tires. Not too bad on price, and they are suppose to wear very well, plus they look cool RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - sassparilla_kid - 06-28-2014 They're gonna stick way out on the sides methinks RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 06-30-2014 I have googled it, and it doesn't really buldge at all surprisingly, Ill order them this week hopefully and report back! RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - DiseaselWeasel - 07-02-2014 On the front it'll be too wide... Front 7x16 @ 205/55, rear 8x16 @ 225/50: RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 07-02-2014 (07-02-2014, 07:36 AM)DiseaselWeasel On the front it'll be too wide... That car looks good... Do you know if it is stock ride height? my 300D looks to sit higher than that. Looking again at that photo I'm almost positive my car sits higher than that 280. But I don't know if it will be enough, those 225's on the back look pretty tight... Thank you for posting that, I haven't ordered them yet, and Im glad. RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - DiseaselWeasel - 07-02-2014 Lowered, yes. Here's more: http://www.mercedes-fans.de/autoderwoche/autoderwoche_artikel/id=5980/start=0 RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 07-04-2014 Do you think a 225/50 would fit on a non lowered car? What part rubs on your 280? RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 07-25-2014 215/55R16s are in the tire shop, I just have to get them mounted up and make sure they fit! Pics soon to come RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 07-29-2014 215/55r16 General gmax as-03 16x7 rims, et20 I think? Clears fine RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 07-30-2014 Well I found out driving on a rough road today, that when the suspension compresses the tire will catch the fender lip. Luckily it only ripped a little rubber off the tire and didn't ruin my brand new tires. Guess I will soon be learning how to roll a fender! RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - DanielK - 08-10-2014 In Vintage Mercedes, fender rolls you. Those fender lips are made of 10 gauge cold rolled tungsten from what I can tell. Have fun! RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 08-11-2014 (08-10-2014, 06:10 PM)DanielK In Vintage Mercedes, fender rolls you. My fender rolling job sure isn't the prettiest, but it wasn't that tough. I just used a old wooden baseball bat and bent the lip up. About a 20-25 minute job RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - DanielK - 08-11-2014 Pics or it didn't happen! RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - Pomidori - 08-15-2014 (07-29-2014, 02:39 PM)MFSuper90 What rims are those? They look great. RE: 225/50R16 on a w123 - MFSuper90 - 08-18-2014 Sorry Daniel, haven't got picture of my crappy fender rolling job yet :p Pomidori, they are Voxx rims. No longer in production according to their website. I bought them off a fellow member on the forum a couple years ago and just got them put on. |
