mix 605 / 612 - barrote - 07-01-2014 hello there, I was wandering if i can assemble a good engine with the remaining pieces of a 605 and a 612. The idea is: use 605 block and head, or 605 block and 612 head. 612 pistons and rods from 605 and crankshaft. Mechanical VE rotary and modify head to fit DI injectors. GT 2359, and inter-cooler. Is it such a nonsense idea? positive comments will be much appreciated, reason, i will really do it Ps I´m just short on the 605 head and the injection pump. RE: mix 605 / 612 - Petar - 07-02-2014 Interesting idea but i think that it would be simpler to just make a standard OM605 superturbo. Big issues would be modifying the om605 head for DI injectors and i am unsure if the OM612 head will fit. It can be done but it would be quite expensive. standard OM605, GT2359V, big intercooler and a 7.5mm M superpump and sell the rest of the parts would be the simplest way to go. Although it would be interesting if you could get the VE pump to work. RE: mix 605 / 612 - barrote - 07-02-2014 Yep wont be easy, What worries me the most is the pistons. and the pump , still have to buy one. i´ll see, do u happen to have info on the pistons ? Regards RE: mix 605 / 612 - Petar - 07-03-2014 All i know about the pistons is that the bore on the OM612 is 88mm and on the OM605 is 87mm. So the block would have to be bored out. BTW i had a similar idea, but i wanted to slap a mechanical pump and injectors on a OM613 but then i figured out that it doesn't have a provision to drive the pump RE: mix 605 / 612 - DiseaselWeasel - 07-03-2014 I think what you want is an OM602.982. 2.9l - 89mm pistons. It's allready direct injection and comes with a Bosch VE attached to it So unless you WANT a multivalve-head - W210 E290TD engine has all you'r after. Stock 129HP & 300nm 1800-2400RPM. It's a very nice engine do drive, it doesn't sound like it's got much power, but it pulls like an ox through the rev range. And sounds awesome (like a truck ). I've been thinking lots about using components from this engine to make a bored out DI-603. 'Cause - I don't like multi-valve engines. RE: mix 605 / 612 - barrote - 07-03-2014 yep, i´m after building a good engine from 2 scrap ones, that's my main idea. u see its a lot easier to tune a VE, that's why i´m wondering going DI, that's not only that, it seems that with DI u can burn much more fuel with less heat. i have experienced heat problems in my IDI engine despite 1 oil to water heat exchanger and a oil radiator. can´t see how people is doing with this tuned pumps, they must have heat problems as well. maybe u have a point, i don't have components from those engines i have from 612, lets see how it will end up. regards BTW E290 TD comes with a 602.98X engine wich is 10 valve. RE: mix 605 / 612 - barrote - 09-04-2015 Hello fine people, the initial idea has changed!!! All is moving in the direction of having a 605 2.9 liter!!! with a 8mm superpump and the other goods too!!! i´m divided, would like your opinion about wich piston to use, DI pistons or IDI ? i´m inclined towards the DI , to leave the possibility of converting it to DI in future. opinions would be much apreciated |
